Description

The Sky Pirates need a captain. We've seen the first mate (New art for her coming tomorrow. I fixed the problems I was having with the original. Also: She has a name now!) and we've seen the cabin girl, Penelope. (Such wonderful comments on her. Thanks guys!) Now, here is their captain, Emeline. Dug way back to find a name suitable for someone who's been around for a few hundred years. I like how it sounds, and figure "friends" might call her Lin or Emma or something along those lines. She's a Vampyre. In this setting, Vampires/Vampyres (looks fancier for Victorian/steampunk setting) aren't lethally allergic to the sun. They just don't like it, preferring to hunt in the night like other predators. Constantly at war with her nature. Wishing to atone for sins of the past. Emeline is a stern captain, aloof. Distant from the others, with only her first mate knowing her secret. This outfit, by the way, is fantastic! It's a fairly recent addition to the Daz store. I even paid full price for it, lol. And I have to say: Worth. Every. Penny. Just look at those textures! I did ditch the hat for one that suited the character better. For the figure, I started with the Monster Bride, because I thought maybe I could hide the neck scars for a not quite so undead look. Alas, that was part pf the skin mat, and not a LIE. But I did really like the shape of her face. I borrows the skin mats from Lenore for Victoria 8, a character who I didn't care for the head shape too much. However, combing that skin with the Monster Bride gave me exactly what I was going for. Then I turned to the set. Mostly, it's "Dreadful Clouds." Of course, I needed an airship and found the excellent "Ramming Zeppelin" her on Renderosity. Currently on sale, too! Hooray! I got it scaled down, and then positioned. It's still fairly big - I needed it far enough back so it' slight wouldn't be cast on the character. It's still closer than it looks, lol. It took me way to long to realize I should just scale things rather than actually moving them so far back. I got Iray shaders applied tot he boat, and then set about getting that red glow. I'm not used to such older props having so many surfaces to play with! Well done. I like to think if you say that read glow shining from a cloud bank, you'd have to change your underpants.I might have to do more if I show the ship more close-up, but fo now? This looks good. Then setting up a couple spotlights on Emeline. I got this on the first attempt. No fiddling. Three spotlights, changed their settings by feel, and hit the iray preview button. On quick adjust to the belt to solve slight clipping, and then hit render. One of the few times where I'm one-hundred percent happy with the end result. I didn't even bother checking out any of the filters in GIMP. Tomorrow, I'll post the new art for the first mate, and work on the strong-arm. I've also got to work on the portrait of the blacksmith I've already introduced to my players in the play-by-post so far. I'm doing play-by-post to get them started while schedules and setup coalesces. That way, I'm keeping them engaged and I'm keeping myself excited, and there's a chance for me to get to know the players and their play styles. It also gets the ball rolling early for actual role play. As always, thank you for commenting. Short list of the Daz Studio grabs for this one.Once I get the whole crew done, I'll be doing a group shot of them. Should be a fun group of NPCs to run. (My first player is playing a steampunk protoman, from the Megaman series. I'm scratching my head as how to accomplish some character art for him, but man is it a fun concept!) Figure: The Monster Bride Skin: BD Lenore for Victoria 8 Main outfit: dForce Guiro Vendetta Hat: 04W from Arrr Pirate hats Hair: Thomas Hair for Genesis 3 Males

Just beautiful! That outfit is superb, you're right about that!

Overall a very fitting image for your character.

Thank you very much. I can't wait for my players to meet her. They're going to be "kidnapped." (Rescued, really, but they won't know that at first.)

Thanks! and I agree. No regrets. I'm dying to put my girl Aryll in that coat, though she might lack other clothing. She tends to have some problems with accidentally burning her clothes.

She looks mighty fine. And this set? It's for both male AND female. That cemented it right there, for me. Lots of nice long coats for men, but hardly any for the ladies. Lady pirate gear is almost always "sexy pirate."

You could join us in daz... ;)

Another very cool character and scene, the lighting brings out the best in the textures and materials...top work...!

Thank you. I'm so glad you like it. You got a good eye for those things, too. When I got the lights set up and hit the preview button, I thought I was crazy. That I would run the render and THEN find the problems. Never got it right on the first go before. All that practice paying off, I guess

2:24PM | Thu, 03 September 2020

Thank you. Everybody ends up with one. I'll think, "Let's just do a simple portrait with no backstory" and by the end I know everything about the character.

I needed a captain, I had an idea, and as I worked with the image everything else fell into place.

Have a beautiful day. Stay thirsty. (Also hydrated)

A wonderful character and so well preserved for 100's of years of wear and tear. But then being a VampiresVampyre has some inherent advantages. A great character. I am reminded of a RPG called "Vampire The Redemption" I played it as a first person gamer and was adicted to it and its follow on. When I get the new system built I am sure gaming may come back in a ferocious way. Oh yeah, another way to burn some money. But hey...its all good fun. As is this wonderful render.

LyleAryn

2:26PM | Thu, 03 September 2020

That's a great game. Looking forward to the sequel they're working on.

Playing it TT though... The system is well thought out, but you got to have the right group of people to play with. And the right kind of DM. Definitely not for everybody.

In this case, the system is meant to handle pretty much anything players want to create. I'm still only on a working title for it, but I'm super excited to finally get people playing. I'm calling the setting "Machina Rosa Gothika," or "Red Machine Gothic." Word salad, but it sounds cool.
