Description
There are actually two versions of The Lady of Shalott; Tennyson revised it extensively about a decade after it was originally published, and it is the later version that is more familiar. Personally, there are some narrative elements in the original (later abandoned) that I prefer, and this is one of them. Having accepted her fate, the Lady writes a farewell note and dons a billowing gown of shining white. She then goes down to the river in the blustery weather, where she finds a boat under a willow. She paints her name on the side and cast herself adrift
A cloudwhite crown of pearl she dight.
All raimented in snowy white
That loosely flew, (her zone in sight,
Clasped with one blinding diamond bright,)
Her wide eyes fixed on Camelot,
Though the squally eastwind keenly
Blew, with folded arms serenely
By the water stood the queenly
Lady of Shalott.
Retextured Moroccan dreams outfit on DAZ. Boat from Cybertenko's Ship Graveyard (with the seat from DMs Fantasy Bath). The willow tree is from Flipmode's Easy Environments Road to Hell, also on DAZ; Flink's water to blend it all into the HDRI backdrop

really really nice contrasts at play here that make the figure, and the tale within, pop. and i don't mean just with lighting either, but colouring and focal points as well. must admit i'm loving that waterfall, but my eyes keep going back to her... the starkness of her, across the water, alone - quite evocative for me, really... nicely done, Joe...

Thanks Giana; I really like this passage and have never understood why Tennyson dropped it.

A stunning depiction of this lesser known version, Joe. There is a certain deeper poignancy to it almost, and though dressed in white, that she is walking to her fate rather than the light of heaven. Gorgeous atmosphere in all respects. :)

Thanks Bella, my thoughts too. The original ending is also better in my opinion.
I may have a go at it, not sure which one to do ...watch this space :)

Beautifully crafted scene...especially like the contrast between the gloomy surrounding and her white outfit...the end of fantasy into the world of reality...

A beautiful illustration for the old poem. I really like how they come together. You see the image, then read the poem, and then go back to find even more depths hidden within. You should be proud of this.

Super awesome illustration of the story.
She looks amazingly gorgeous drifting down the river to meet her fate.
Acceptance is a wonderful and powerful decision.
Super well done .
