Description

["SE" Series = Sapphic Encounters (see the first render in the series for info)] Riley had such a good time that evening, she doesn’t want to say good night just yet, and Maria doesn’t mind one bit! ==NOTES== You can’t really see the streetlight prop behind the two women, but it’s there, along with a spotlight pointing down on the two women. I know the rest of the image is kinda dark, but the light hits where it needs to :-) There’s something kinda silly about outfits that have pants AND little frilly skirts, like we need to be reminded that these are GIRLS wearing pants. But I guess they’re also kinda cute. Maybe these two will show up again in a more brightly lit environment! Rendered in September 2020 in Poser Pro 11 Firefly at 3200 × 1800 pixels, using direct lighting (1 inverse-square point light, 1 inverse-linear spotlight, and an IBL light). Postwork in Photoshop (adjustments in Camera Raw plus frame and sig). View full size on my blog. ==CREDITS== SCENE: Steambike Pro by Val3dart; Steampunk Hostel by coflek-gnorg. CHARACTER: V4 left: Elverado Outfit by SWAM; RiotGrrl Bootz by Nursoda; VYK Riley skin; 3Dream Apollonia hair. V4 right: SteamPunk Aviator Outfit by B25; VYK Maria skin.

Dark scenes are the toughest. You simple cannot over light them and make it look real. If I had one suggestion it would be to do an alternate camera view where you pull the lovers forward toward the camera so that they are bigger and more the center of attention in the dark room. Just a thought. This is quite lovely

I definitely could've pulled in the camera closer. I'm not sure why I didn't, although I suspect it's b/c I probably framed the shot before I lit it, and I was probably trying to get the right-hand character's full outfit in the frame. But after I lit it, her boots are barely visible, so at that point I should've moved the camera in. Whoops! :-)

I like me some Steampunk, as you well know! I struggle with dimly lit scenes it appears to me you are having the same battle. May I ask how you choose your IBL light? I've been avoiding the use of IBL lately and am thinking of giving that a rethink. It's certainly a nice image and I expect to try something like it someday!😉

Thanks so much for the comment, Molly! After doing a bunch of experiments with lighting, I found that I actually kinda prefer the look of using an IBL for environmental lighting over using Indirect Lighting but that may be b/c IDL in Poser Firefly can be so finicky (and slow). I choose IBL images that seem to match the environment of the scene I've created, as best as I can. I've found that while the IBL in Poser is designed for light probe style images, it works fine with HDRI style images too, so I've downloaded a ton of free HDRIs for both interior and exterior environments!
