Description

[Please see the description for SE1 - Getting Steamy for background on this series!] I got all the way to rendering a final version of this scene using "studio" lighting before I decided that it looked kinda ridiculous, given that the interior just wouldn’t happen to have key, fill, and rim lights so precisely placed. So I deleted all the lights and started over, using only point lights and an IBL light. The result isn’t as dramatic, but at least it makes more sense (to me anyway)! I included the first version on my blog post for this scene, just in case anyone’s curious enough to compare them. Rendered in September 2020 in Poser Pro 11 Firefly at 3200 × 1800 pixels, using direct lighting (4 inverse linear point lights and an IBL light). Postwork in Photoshop (adjustments in Camera Raw plus frame and sig). View full size on my blog. ==CREDITS== SCENE: Odysseon Station by Nightshift3D. CHARACTER: V4 left: Flying Cadet Lola Pepper by Val3dArt, Astrid for S4 by Sarsa. V4 right: Riae Steampunk Outfit* and Riae Hair by Val3dart; 3DS Raelyn skin. (* this outfit is so low cut, there would've been no way to avoid a nudity tag without using a second skin bra!!)

Great job with the poses and expressions. This is a very fun scene. Your extra attention to the lighting paid off. It's often hard to decide between "perfect" lighting or "realistic" lighting. I usually try for a happy medium between the two. BTW: You have a cool series of steampunk illustrations! Keep up the great work.

Great image - I looked at the other version too, where the lighting picked the figures out nicely, but agree that it was rather unrealistic for an interior image such as this. Nice work!

This is a great action scene! The lighting on both versions is nice, but I agree that this is more realistic!
