Description

Fractal Design Painter 2.0, 1997. I painted this image by originally painting the background texture independent of the foreground. I was going for the idea of a piece of plywood with deep grains and hairs caught in it (possibly twine strands). Then I used this texture as a base for this painting of a pretty blue kitten staring at a goldfish from a riverbank above. The kittens eyes are subtly reflected in the water, bringing the eye to the goldfish represented beneath. It was originally a study for producing depth and a feeling of transparency in a heavily textured and highly opaque field of colors, but the focus remains on the kitten, probably because of the colors I chose.

Very cool, love the colors and grainy texture.

I really like the texture and strong color. Perhaps a bit less blur on the cats eyes and a bit more in the reflected eyes.

I tried it with the blur on the eyes in the water, but it didn't match the surrounding "paint" gel texture. With the kitten I was going for soft and silky, combined with the hard texture behind and the thick, dark, blurry outline to make it blend more with the background while allowing high contrast at the same time.
