Long-time Electronics Engineering Technician and Draftsman/CAD-man. Doing 3D rendering for fun to enjoy some limited free time when I can.
I enjoy following a lot of artists here and really appreciate feedback and any suggestions on how to make my renders better!
Self-Built i7 8-core liquid-cooled machine running 64-bit OS
upgraded to a GTX 960 from QUADRO 2000
the $$ I saved by only upgrading to the GTX960 went into RAM : Now running 32G (up from 16G)
UPDATE : FEB 2019 : Purchased 2nd GTX 960 to install and run .. let's see how much more my render times go down :)
UPDATE : MAY 2019 : Here are 2 links to my OLD OLD OLD files I recently found and uploaded : http://starfrontiers.com/HouseRules/ (short story work-in-progress .pdf is in upper left corner) and my original WDC IS BEING ATTACKED files : http://www.starfrontiers.com/Rangers/
UPDATE : JAN 2023 : Purchased a single Nvidia RTX 3060 12G to replace both GTX 960s. GREAT Decision! Single GPU allows me to still use the PC and my RAM is down from 32G (MAX) to 7G while the GPU renders within seconds/minutes. I can also use the iRay Quick View as well and still use the PC.

the iray is the best with a lot of advantage ahead

Agreed - I still use it the most of all the render engines Octane is great for inanimate objects (so is Reality)

This image provides great informations about rendering...thanks...but, in my opinion Iray is the best one.

Decidedly, I prefer the Iray

Agreed w/all again as well ..
I am working on some more specific Octane renders. Does it also appear to everyone else the you only get 30-day trial? I remember looking into Octane a few years ago, but it wasn't worth the $20-$30 per month fee. I got into iRay instead and purchased a lifetime license for Reality for under $25 USD.
I have been playing with Octane's materials to make the render more fair .. I'll keep working on testing and post up when I can. Compare True iRay materials versus True Octane materials and see which we like better .. I'm still learning about Octane lighting as well, I know that will make a HUGE difference too on renders .. I do like how much faster Octane is .. but I still think iRay renders skin better and Octane may render objects better at times (all dependent upon proper lighting of course).
