Description

I don't get into photo manipulation often but it's fun every once in a while. Especially when my Poser and Vue projects are still crashing their respective software. So, I roll out my inner Stalin1 and craft reality to my liking. I took this photo during an evening visit to Waterloo (Ontario) last September - as in 2019.2 The new Waterloo Region iON LRT system had been running for just over two (2) months. Allen Station is in street (on King Street 'South' in Waterloo)3 and typical of all station stops along Route 301. An accessible (ramp like) central platform (in between the tracks) with easy access to either direction. It is well lit with arrival displays and fare purchase/validation terminals. As well as enclosed shelters. LRV 513 is heading 'northbound' through the Waterloo core district (aka "The Loop") via King Street to Conestoga Station next to Conestoga Mall in North Waterloo. LRV 509 is going 'southbound' through Kitchener's downtown to Fairway Station adjacent to Fairwiew Park Mall in 'East' Kitchener. The line got a lot of criticism during planning because, "it just connects two shopping malls". The critics (of course) ignoring the two downtowns, one (really big) university, one regional hospital and other destinations in between. Well, who's critical now? Turns out me.5 This is for the most part an un-doctored photo. But if there is one thing about modern trams7 that I do not like, it's the monochromatic, low resolution pixel displays masquerading as destination signs. Guys, we are less than three (3) weeks from the third (3rd) decade of the twenty-first (21st) Century, we can do better than that. Returning to roll signs are a better option if you ask me.8 Thus, evoking my powers as God Emperor of the Universe9, I have perfected these Waterloo LRVs with worthy destination displays. Okay, I didn't use PhotoShop, I used GIMP.10 Cheers! And stay safe. Tell your children. 3I have espoused of the bendy-twisty character of the road system in the Kitchener-Waterloo4 area several times. And that there is a single King Street with North, South, East and West subdivisions. 4Though conjoined, they are two separate cities and you best remember that if you ever visit. 5Isn't it ironic?66Ah, another Alanis Morissette moment. 7In my part of the world. 8And you didn't. 9In my own mind. 10I'm cheap.

Nice capture, Clayton. So sleek and clean...New York subways are not as shiny and clean, but they're not too bad considering there are more than 5 million riders each day. I like the digital destination signs--the roll up ones don't hold up too well and end up somewhat askew, looking like a crumbled mess.

Do hope you are holding up well under this new surge in Covid.

Great photo here - they should let you design the destination display, my friend!

I've not used Vue since version 10 - I still have it, but it's pretty much a train wreck.. I kinda gave up on Vue after they went the subscription route. I have enough with Adobe and Microsoft (and I may dump the MS 365 sub..). Poser's doing fine here. I'm about to start messing with Blender, so I'm sure my head is going to explode soon... LOL
