Description

In her office at the Libris observatory Zavora continues to follow Mirrorsun's response. Her plan didn't achieve her desired result, the breaking up of Mirrorsun, but had an unintended beneficial effect. With the destruction of the Wanderers by Mirrosun, electrical power sources are no long automatically destroyed. There are still the social and religious rules against electricity but Zavora is confident she can address that through intelligent persuasion or, if she has to, subterfuge. Both have served her well in the past. Meanwhile she is forming a new plan to address the Mirrorsun problem. She realizes the machine has demonstrated intelligence and that electric power will give her the means to contact it. She believes she can make a convincing argument that Mirrosun's building of an effective sunshield, rather than being beneficial, could bring a disastrous return of Greatwinter. (Experimenting with composition, this is a close-up view in the scene of a previous render. The scene is the same, but the narrative is different.) The Highliber is SPICY Masala with Georgia hair, wearing the V4 Ranger top (combined with the Queen of Hearts sleeves), Space Defenders: Commander pants, and Courageous boots, from DAZ. Zavora's assistant in the background is V4 outfitted with components from Courageous and with Iggy hair, from DAZ. The telescope is by Bessm, from TurboSquid. The Observatory is built from the Gentleman's Game Room (DAZ) and the furniture and books are from the Fantasy Library, the Steampunk Bookstore and Babbage's Thinking Machine. The scene, inspired by the Greatwinter trilogy, was composed and rendered in Poser 11 Pro. This about finishes my series of images. I hope they inspired some interest in Sean McMullen's Greatwinter trilogy. While basically post-apocalyptic, the trilogy provides different perspectives from most novels of that genre and even brings in some cyber-punk elements. The images are from the first book: Souls in the Great Machine. This book, from 1999, is actually a combination of two earlier novels, Voices in the Light and Mirrorsun Rising, from 1994 and 1995. Although the re-written combination may be better written, I found the maps in the earlier books informative.
