Description
Kyllikki, the Flower of Saari, was a maiden of exceptional beauty, described as so lovely she was "desired by the sun and moon and stars themselves". In the epic, she is wooed (and eventually won) by the rather "laddish" and arrogant Lemminkäinen... though somewhat unsurprisingly their nuptial bliss doesn't last.
She features relatively little in the "standard" version of the epic as compiled by Elias Lönnrot in the 19th century, but in the earlier oral tradition she's seen as a strong-willed and fearless woman opposed to her husband’s warlike ways.
