Description
There are a good number of "legends" that have been presumably told my an "Arch-Mage" Named Micheal of Hoth that still resonate and are retold time and again. There are even a few legends that are attributed to the Mage himself that paint him as a powerful wizard on the level of the fictional Gandalf the white. In as many ways he even seems to mimic similar traits as the literary great. His name has popped up in so many legends not only on earth, where he was supposed to have been born, but on other worlds by other species of life in what is known within the Imperium. It is said that even Hivers have at least one anecdotal tale of him visiting. But the odd question seems to remain and never quite find an answer.
Did he really exist?
There are those who have claimed abilities of magic saying he not only did, but does still. That Lord Micheal of Hoth, Arch-Mage has somehow managed to remain alive and remain essentially the same person he was from long ago, unlike other long-lived persons that have actually existed. So what do the legends suggest of this Mage. They suggest he is of average build and complexion. He has moderately long and well kept white-ish hair and a long, full beard also mostly white or gray. There are some debates of the color of his eyes being a pale blue or gray, but he has what is said as "Expressive eyebrows" that are thick but attended to. His style of clothing follows a similarity to the robes and cloaks he once wore to stylish suits that loosely fit his frame. It is mentioned that he has some sort of tattoo or birthmark on his right hand and possibly arm but no one has been able to define it further.
It is said his speech is remarkably clear and precise and carries a very distinct English accent. It's tone and timbre is rumored to be that similar to the English actor Edwin Finn, who played the role of the supreme being in the 1980's film "Time Bandits" and or at times John Cleese of Monty python, Fawltey Towers fame. A possible reason for this is due to the wizards method if one would allow. Those that first meet him generally meet a man that seems rather dotty and forgetful with a tendency to wander verbally. Allowing those new to him to disregard or underestimate him and in his way determine what sort of person he is meeting.
If he determines you are the right sort, he eases into a more alert set and mannerisms to that of and very smart but generous fellow, eager to assist with information or "Magical Support". If one isn't then he continues his dottering old man act until that person departs his presence. It is noted in several tales he is constantly using "Little Magic" to assist everything he does. Much possibly in the same way those of us in the modern era use technology. It is said that Authur C.Clarke famed scientist and author of many books developed his notion that magic is just science that have not yet been understood from periodic meetings with Micheal of Hoth (Referred as Micheal O'Hoth).
Today, there is a very small but growing group of citizens that suggest The wizard has made some recent appearances within the vicinity of Regina Prime. Presumably, as they say, investigating what may be a resurgence of the old magics in human hands. Of course many of these people are quite the REN-FARE crowd and simply have fallen in love with the notion with a torrent of wishful thinking. Besides, who would enjoy a little fantasy now and again for entertainment..
Meanwhile...
The well dressed older gentleman was a interesting diversion from Allis Tucker's day at the coffee kiosk. He had stepped off a bus and at first seemed to be waiting for someone, then decided to have a hot cup of something. He sheepishly asked Allis if she knew what proper tea was with an accent befitting the request. She smiled warmly and using a little of her magical skill made him "A proper cuppa." much to his delight. From there he sat at the counter her whole shift and between sips and cups engaged her in small but interesting conversation. Allis was thankful for the pleasant company but she worried he might not know exactly where he was or how to get back where he might be from. He had actual money and it seemed a good deal of it. He used no chip or card saying they confounded him.
At the end of her shift she asked this fellow who called himself Micheal if he wanted her to call him a cab or someone to collect him, as she assumed he had no cellphone, and hers, since her magic woke no longer worked, to use the kiosks landline. He stated that he had a reservation at Howard Johnson's at star-port, but in his rush he'd forgotten to check in. Then asked in the most polite way, "If the lady might consider serving as a guide whilst in this fair city, as it seems to me that our young Allis here seems to be my only legitimate link to a proper hot beverage. Oh worry not dear lady, my intentions are wholly honorable."
Allis found herself thinking about it. The magic she had used thus far seemed to show he wasn't dangerous and she could likley defend herself if she were wrong,(as she kept shocking grasp locked and loaded). She agreed at least to get him to his hotel lobby for a start and then...possibly further, if he wasn't a creep. He offered his arm as a dandy gentleman might and keeping her casting hand free they walked to the mostly nearby automated TXE stand for a ride to the port. Their conversation about very little continued as Allis noted that this elderly man hardly looked directly at her but around her as if looking for something.
"Say Mike.."She started carefully. "Who were you supposed to be meeting?" she asked attempting to remain casual. "Ahh!" he exclaimed pointing to the sky. "Was wondering when you would ask young Allis." he seemed to say with relief. "I was supposed to be meeting a person whom had heard, supposedly, that could direct me to someone that..get this...could use MAGIC..of all things." he said sounding incredulous. "I fear they were having me on you know, some off-world professor that teaches ancient history willing to chase foolishness and nick a few pounds in the process." He stated slightly jovially. "Good thing I found you instead dear lady. You know..To keep this old relic safe from heartless bounders and jackaknapes." He said kindly patting her hand.
"I guess some people are like that." Allis said as confidently as she could muster. While she still felt safe, she now felt she needed to be very careful. Especially if he might be able to sense magic, for she had learned that some could.
The old Arch-mage was quite pleased with her caution, and her preparedness....
