Description
"Look at this," Dorothy said, sitting the strongbox on the mattress and taking out the ruby slippers. She crossed her right leg over her left and began to put on one of the slippers on her right foot. She then stood up. "These are still just about the most comfortable shoes I ever had."
" 'I've ever had'," Wendy corrected her.
Dorothy rolled her eyes. "Listen, Prissypants. Do you think we wear the same shoe size?"
Wendy laughed her tinkling, silver-toned laugh. "Oh no," she replied. "My feet are rather unique, I'm afraid – wider than most people's, so I must go to a cobbler for my shoes – "
"Try this on," Dorothy urged her friend, picking up the other ruby slipper – the left one.
Wendy took the slipper and inserted her left foot. Well, not exactly. It was more as if the slipper embraced her foot gently, securely and comfortably – almost as if it were molding itself to Wendy.
She gasped.
"Don't that just beat all?"
Wendy was too shocked and surprised to correct Dorothy's grammar and syntax.
