Description
Okay, so I had a nightmare where I hear a scream and my babysitter runs into my room holding a human heart. I’m not sure why I have a babysitter, and I’m not sure where the extra heart came from, because nobody else was in the house.
So, I wake up with that artificial scared feeling you get during a nightmare. By the way, that feeling comes from the lizard brain when something triggers one of our primordial fears. All those old instincts still exist, buried somewhere under our modern brain.
Anyway, the only light in my room is the blue light on the power strip sitting on this long dresser. The blue light has a ton of wires and cables stacked on it. You know, from the tv, dvd player, cable box, clock, aroma mister, nintendo switch, guitar amps, pedals, and a bunch of stuff I know longer know what the cable goes to.
So, all these cables cast an interesting and weird shadow on the ceiling. Well, last night I hooked up a new pedal to my amp and tossed the extra cable on top of the pile, which must have changed the shadow configuration. I wake up from my nightmare and look up at the ceiling, and it’s the perfect shape of a demon. I’ll have to try to get a picture of it. So, yeah, that’s weird. I stare at my new friend for a few seconds and say, ‘hey bud, while you’re up there, could you clean the cobwebs off the ceiling fan’.
If the cobwebs are gone when I go back inside after my morning coffee, I’m going to push the vacuum cleaner in there and see what happens.
Moral of the story: Don't play the forbidden riff (Stairway to Heaven) before bed, and don't leave your amp on when you go to sleep. A feedback loop is probably what my sleeping brain heard. And maybe straighten up that tangle of wires.
P.S. Here's the reason why Stairway to Heaven is called the forbidden riff. Warning, for some it can be disturbing. www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNE75XznfIE

Hmmm... I don't think I'll click that link. I'm sorry you had a night-time scare like that. Shadows are odd things, they're almost alive. I hope you have better dreams tonight.

Oh heaven's no. Nightmares are where all my story ideas come from.

For me, the stairway to heaven riff will remain a mystery. LOL! Don't want to get scared! Quite the experience you subconscious is dealing you. Have you been meditating as well?

A reassuring light in the dark! And I did not know about the forbidden riff :-) Interesting! Beautiful piece (your artwork that is)!

quite a dream, lol ! I've found that the entry---into our unconscious---of "acceptable" sounds can uncover the terror in those sounds. Just as common electrical glows can become terrifying during late night. (When we did synthesizer composition---I mean composing with sound, not using synthesizers as melodic instruments ((ie., composing with whooshes and bleeps and blasts and hisses))---we fell in love with the terrors hidden in those sounds. That's what your dream experience brings to mind. I heard the Led Z. a long time ago, but having heard a little of it just now, yahh: I'd definitely not hear it as your falling asleep, lol---or else expect some reeeeeallllly weird dreams. Well written as always, and the image looks like a title or chapter-title image, and it's eerie and effective. Love the blue tint and the moon in the background....
