I am the author Lyle Aryn. Writing is my first love, my one true passion. Every since I was able to string a sentence together, it's all I've wanted to do. Websites where you can find my work and more are below.
I started using Daz Studio October 23rd of 2018, just as something to dink around with. I'd been signed up with the sight for a while, and would occasionally remember to check for freebies. I was surprised at what I had when I finally loaded up the program. I just started playing around with it, figuring it out. I'd say about 92% of what I've learned in the program I've learned just by playing around with it.
In December I went from being a dutiful son looking after his mom, to the full-time, no nights or weekends off, caretaker of my Mom. As someone who struggles with depression, anxiety and a mood disorder or two, this change has had a drastic impact on my own personal care and well-being. I turned to my blossoming love of doing digital art as a way to cope with the mountains of stress on my shoulders. I do miniature painting, too. But when you haven't slept in 4 days, handling a brush can be very messy. Not being able to paint to my own personal satisfaction was making this avenue of relaxation increasingly frustrating.
Daz Studio has an undo button that you just don't get with painting miniatures.
As my skill with the program grows, so does my confidence. I did the cover to my fifth novel, "Because the Night" using Daz Studio, as well as new covers for two previous releases. (Though they haven't been updated just yet.)
I'm looking to always improve my artistic work, no matter what the medium, and Daz Studio is no different.

Since you asked, one thing I used to do was only look at the pose - especially the posing of the hair - from a single POV. Since I began looking and adjusting from all sides, the pose seen through the camera looks much more natural.
LyleAryn
That's always been something I've done. Rotate around to see how it looks. Make sure the fingers and such are correct on all sides, even if it's completely off-camera. And those very few times when I hide something with a clever camera angle? I just feel dirty.

OK ! (but it's a great image...the other one tas well) I mainly work on light, atmosphere from either a HDRI or the sun (I render with the "sun only" option) and I discovered that we don't really need to purchase lights (sorry for the creators !). Poses and expressions must tell a story...well the image must tell a story and not be just an illustration.
LyleAryn
Ah, yes. When I can get away with it, I love using sun-sky. It renders so much faster!

LyleAryn
Thanks. Pure HDRI, which creates some problems.

You go, girl! excellent!
LyleAryn
Thank you. It's not terrible art, I just don't feel its the best cover to bring in readers, you know?
Saby55
Great job, as always! 👏👏👏👍🙋♂️
LyleAryn
Thanks. I barely knew what I was doing at the time. I see it as a marker for how much I've grown.

LyleAryn
Thank you.

My only bad habit was really to think "I could make that", and then spend all my time making things for a scene that I'd never get round to doing...
...much like now then, really...
I still like this, even if it looks a little dated!
LyleAryn
It was an improvement over the cover that I paid $150 for. (Learned my lesson.) Hopefully the new one does even better in the market.

Well, it certainly doesn't look bad to me! It does have a different "feel" but it's certainly a lovely piece.
LyleAryn
Thanks. I try to capture some western vibes, but I think maybe that just ends up being a bit confusing to people.
katyee
It is a lovely piece and if my earlier renders looked a quarter as good I would have been so happy lol. As it was I kept forgetting to add lighting, I had a tree poking out of a horses side and rather than reclining of the ground, the character was levitating.
LyleAryn
That definitely tells a different kind of story, lol. I am enjoying your work, by the way.
Radar_rad-dude
That horse is gorgeous! The landscape is so barren! Must be like what we are headed for with the drought that threatens many parts of the country.
LyleAryn
Thank you. It's meant ot represent a location in the book known as "The Void," Where magic tore a hole in things, causing a barren space where life will not grow.

Excellent

Thank you very much!
tuxedomask
Great sense of atmosphere in this render .Lighting looks a treat .
LyleAryn
Thanks! I learned quite a bit from it. I think I'd handle a few things differently if I were to redo the exact same image today.
