This isn't a render. I'm decorating my office in a steampunk theme. This is a tile I made. Here's the steps I took...
1) dusted a silicone mold that looks like a tile with metal sheets and rivets with copper powder.
2) Pressed Sculpey clay in to the mold using a lot of pressure to get it down in to the tiny rivet holes (I pounded it with a heavy flat object - I guess a hammer would have worked too.)
3) Baked for 30 minutes at 275F
4) After it was cooled, I removed it from the mold.
5) In a bowl of hot water mixed 1/2c hot water 1/4c salt, I soaked the tile for a few seconds.
6) In a plastic container with an air tight lid, I placed a plastic disk.
7) I poured household ammonia in to the container, but was careful to let the disk stick up out of the ammonia.
8) Careful not to let the tile touch the liquid ammonia, I removed it from the saltwater and placed it on top of the disk.
9) Sealed the container, and let it sit for 12 minutes.
10) After 12 minutes, I opened it and removed the tile, and gently rinsed it with cold water.
11) Placed it in a warm location to let it dry.
CAUTION: Because of the fumes, do this is a well ventilated area. I used the exhaust fan over my stove as it sucks the fumes up and out of the room.
This also works with brass and bronze powder as the also contain copper.
