Description

Tuesday... Today, I moved my main computer (the one I use for everything else besides creating artworks) over to the other side of the room - to the new desk I just built for it. Moving one computer, 2 monitors, 3 external drives, and one scanner. Sounds like a couple hours' work at most, right? Wrong. More like all friggin' day. Then to compound things, and make life more interesting, my network decided it would be great fun to stop working. Again. After a couple hours of checking cables, rebooting computers, rebooting network switches, using swear words that only Wolf's Aiden or Ruk folks would know the meaning of, I finally tracked down the funky RJ45 connector that was causing all the misery. Finally, everything is working again. Why do I keep doing this to myself?? Anyway..... The top photo is the new layout on the East side of the basement with the main Photoshop machine on the left, and the main machine I'm typing this on to the right - on its new desk. The middle left photo shows the slide-out scanner shelf. Both computers have these slide-outs - it's handy to be able to slide the scanners out of the way when not needed. The external drives live on shelves on the left side of the desk. The middle right photo is of the corner table where this main computer used to live. If you remember some of my earlier photos, you saw the table system I built several years ago that wrapped around the west side of the basement in a "U" shape. It worked well for several years, but with our plans to relocate at some point in the future, I wanted individual desks that would be easier to move, more space-efficient, and would fit in a standard-sized bedroom UPSTAIRS. I'm tired of freezing down in the basement every winter! The bottom photos show the corner table partially disassembled, and on the right is the open space that is now easily walked through. The computer in the background is my main Poser machine, all by its lonesome. That will change soon, as I'll be putting together a new desk for it as well. It will be just like the desk I just built, only without the scanner slide since it doesn't have a scanner attached. It and the DAZ machine will be backed up to the backside of that cabinet on the lower right. Now, it's time to get to work on the next page in the T.N.A. saga. Terrific set-up you have, Rod. Do you think you have enough monitors ? :) Glad you got all working, eventually...

I'm spoiled rotten, Barb! Except for a laptop, I'd go nuts working with just 1 monitor... LOL Took me years to gather all this stuff... 😉

It's very "Schweppes" my dear Rod.😊💖🥰. Superb photos. Just take care, your next house, make it feel comfortable so you can walk and work anywhere like it were summer time... First of all, make sure it's a pleasant, safe place to live. I've noticed the new skill you achieved, "spoiled rotten". It sounds perfect to me, you are flawless.😊💖🥰

Your man cave is most impressive, and I can sympathize with having several computers going, with many having over lapping features... just ran down a problem of no video signal to one of my computers which turned out to be an HDMI cable to a big screen tv sucking the signal from a sister monitor... now add cell phones and a tablet Oh my !!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's time to make life a little simpler sighhhhhh

Your latest setup looking terrific, Rod! I love the wood grain desk effects and the increased efficiency of being able to move it all into a bedroom once you get your new place! It is no fun to freeze out. I know! I've been there! A wonderful montage of photos showing all the hard work you have done! I salute your efforts and pray the will serve you well! Many fine praises from me!!!!

Thanks, Bill! I just used wood panels from Lowes with a walnut stain, and several coats of Polycrylic to give them a nice sheen. Got 2 more to build... 😜

I tried using 2 lcd monitors, but I would forget which keyboard I was using

I decided today to pull out the dryer/washing machines to clean. I discovered the cold water hose was leaking when I moved the washing machine too far. tightened it up before returning it. sure glad it did not start leaking when I was not home

Wow! What a set-up! I feel completely inadequate with my lone 10 year old desk top computer. I wouldn't dare try and move all that stuff... even before I was stuck in this wheelchair. I commend you for your bravery!

I'm impressed. I have one old PC, and an old laptop my brother gave me this past winter. I think I'm rather jealous of your set up. :) I hope everything stays running.

Very nice configuration Rod, I dream of it but I am cruelly short of space. You did a great job, now you just have to make us wonders ...

That looks like a lot of work! What you are missing though.. are 32" (or bigger) monitors! :P I hate all the wires.. electrical, usb, network, etc. that goes into having a computer system. trying to hide the wires so they are not in sight is a nightmare!
I've done two pc units in the past, but can't even manage one now. Great job young man!

Yeah, that something I have yet to figure out.... How to hide / disguise that freaking jungle of wires - cables. Other than having the desk with the back side facing a wall... Hopefully that will be the case if we're ever able to move to another place.

Its nice to see where the master craftsman performs all his magic! Its not often the elite leader of the TNA girls shows us his secret underground base, where all the action originates from! You have a fantastic setup Rod! Now pat yourself in the back, have a cup of coffee and get back to the business of guiding the TNA team towards another successful mission! :-)

Thanks for sharing a glimpse into your world. I myself moved into a new office and got an additional monitor. It took a day just like you mentioned above. I even got to do a render once everything settled into place. Changing things up can be really inspirational. I hope you are enjoying your new space.
