Description
Our backstage tour begins in the wings, stage left. In theater parlance stage left is the left side of the stage for an actor facing the audience. Downstage is towards the audience, upstage is back farther from the audience. The wings are spaces on either side of the proscenium arch framing the stage that the audience sees. It a play requires set changes the wings holds scenery waiting to be moved on stage while the curtain is closed between scenes. No set changes for this play so three is plenty of open space on either side. There can be a lot going on here during a performance but it happens quietly so the audience doesn’t hear it, like whispered directions, “Open the door - now!”
From here in the wings we see the back side of the scenery and how it is pub together. This play is a comic farce all taking place in a single room with lots of doors for lots of surprise entrances and exits. Turell is explaining. “It is pretty solid, but even so, the director has got to tell the actors not to slam the doors, or the walls are gonna shake no matter how I prop them up..”

A most cool tour, although I am taking it from latest to earlier. It works for me. Well done.

Fine. Just keep track of the layout. It will be quite important later on.
