This is my latest effort in Blender, still not finished. This project has been occupying a lot of my free time at weekends in the past few weeks, and will occupy a few more before it is ready to be animated. For the intended animation I need to create a good CG model of the Earth, which of course will use NASA's Blue Marble Next Generation textures. The ship needs a few more fine details before it is ready. More on that animation project when it is uploaded to YouTube, it will be rendered at the 4k UHD resolution so as far as I know I can't put it on Renderosity, but I will put a link to it from one of my gallery images. Talking of free time, I haven't had much of that lately, and all that I did have was spent on this ship. I'll try to get into the galleries and comment on some stuff, no promises but it should happen Friday if not before. The back-story: The Discovery II is a high speed deep space exploration ship completed in 2260. The design was based on a standard interstellar modular transport ship, but heavily upgraded. The main upgrades were two far more powerful fusion reactors, a new drive to make use of all that extra power, and the addition of several hundred extra sensors. Because charters for exploratory missions can be hard to come by the ship can still be operated as a transport ship, configured for cargo, passengers or a mixture of the two. This image shows the ship on its very first journey from the construction bay to fetch her first load, which was six passenger modules — you can see those in the next image. The attachment points enable Discovery to carry up to 18 modules, each of which can accommodate between 80 and 200 passengers or up to 250 tons of cargo. There are also carrier modules that enable the ship to carry atmosphere-capable shuttles. The various kinds of modules will be shown in the coming images. Most types are now ready, though the shuttle carrier modules are not started yet.
