This is a nice cavescape, however it doesn't look underground. Few suggestions. A. Too much light based on the lighting suggested by the torches (it is a cave). Also, not enough shadows on the same basis. Perhaps make the water darker and less clear- it will give a bit more of an ominous feel. At the top of the cavern, it needs more texturing like shelves, ledges, projections- maybe a cavern roof. Hey, what is that under-water on the lower left. A nice start- finish it off.

May be my mood here, which I will say is not real good at the moment, but I think the above comment is uncalled for. A. Could be an entrance in the foreground that we can't see, hence the light. B. I live in an area that has caves, not all caves have ledges, shelves. Alot are very smooth. Great image Byron! I for one don't have the talent that it takes to produce something this nice. Again, maybe I took stan's comment wrong, if I did I am sorry.

Great work and good modelling, just experiment with the intensity and fall off of your lights ,maybe try to fake a little radiosity and avoid ambient lighting, one more thing im not sure if 3d max lets you do this but in lightwave you can add a light with a negative intensity value which when combined with an intensity falloff you can take away unwanted light from certain areas in your scene, this allows you to darken areas of light and helps to control shadow intensity. These are tips to help you relight yor image if you intend on adjusting it but it sill looks great like this.

Love that mechanism! And the wood texture to it... yumm! /the flames could have used a bit more work, but the mechanism makes it up :-)

I can't even begin to imagine how he does all this. Fantastic! All points taken, but I tend to agree with Wynd. Geography and terrain features are not "written in stone" (Little joke there..."very" little, LOL!) There are circumstances in nature which could naturally produce every result placed here. So, the atmosphere here is in the eye of the beholder. Myself, I think it's fantastic, and totally beyond what I could ever hope to achieve. Grand work brschmidt. Your models are awesome and your posettes perfect. curtsies and flits away

Made an attempt at making some of the changes above... lighting and worked on the fire a bit... I don't think I'm going to work on anymore underground scenes. They are a PIA!
