Description
Kat was at the station when I arrived after my first therapy session.
"You got your cast off.”
"Last Thursday. I had therapy for the first time today. It was almost pointless."
She snorted. "I could've told you that."
"What are you doing here? You said you'd leave them alone."
"I was asked to come in. They have questions for me."
"For your abduction or the killings?"
"The abduction."
"How are you doing?"
"I'm f…" The word sputtered out. She could lie any more than I could. She scowled. "Don’t you have some kids to find?"
"Kat, if you need help, you have my number."
"Why would I trust you?"
"Because, Froggy, we’re friends. Because I'm sworn to protect Oberon’s subjects, and that includes the Unseelie, whether they recognize it or not. Because I've been there."
She glanced at me. "I'll think about it."
I nodded and headed up to my desk. It was a small, out-of-the-way desk but it filled my needs. All I did was create reproductions of crime scenes digitally unless I was casting and that was rarely done. My spells weren't admissible in court like my re-creations were.
Agent Harris approach. "What is your citizenship?"
"I'm an American."
"For how long?"
"How long has there been a country?"
"You can't have citizenship that long."
"I do. I came over with some colonists five hundred years ago. I was registered and everything. The judge had me show all the names I've used, and the court traced them back to when I came over."
"You're not being human wasn't an issue?"
"Of course it was. Plenty protested. Some still do. But there's nothing that says a citizen has to be human. I am quite capable of doing anything I human can do."
"What about your cousin?"
"My cousins haven't been around in six hundred years. I don't think any have even been to this continent."
"What about that one that was kidnapped?"
"Kat? She isn’t my cousin."
"I was told she was."
"She's my cousin's half-sister."
"Wouldn’t that make her your cousin?"
"Maybe if my cousin's parents were married. They weren't.
"I don't know anything about Kat’s citizenship, or how long she been in the states. Why?"
"Just dotting I’s and crossing T’s. Since she’s been in the station, we wanted to make sure there wouldn’t be a problem."
"You’ll have to talk to her. She’s here today."
"I saw. That's what made me think to ask."
"But, she's Unseelie. Being disruptive is in her blood. She’ll do what she can to help find the kids, or at least not hinder you for her brother’s sake. But don't piss her off. She will get revenge."
"Revenge? How?"
"Creatively. And she’ll do it within the law. My recommendation is unless you absolutely need her help, stay away from her. And tell Brandt not to sleep with her. I'm assuming you’re professional enough not to."
"Brandt has a girlfriend."
"Yeah, and that guarantees anything.”
"Neither of us will sleep with her."
"Good. It’s safer that way. Unless you're here for the solstice, then, that's totally different."
"I won’t ask why. Hopefully, we won't be here that long."
"What if more kids go missing?"
"Hopefully that won't happen. We'll find them before that." He nodded and left.
I shook my head. I used to think that I’d never understand humans. Now, I realize humans are too different from each other. Some, I understand. Some, I don't. But humans are in the same boat. They don't understand each other.
I returned my attention to my computer, opened the next file, and let out a string of curses in Elvish.
"What does that even mean?" Marcus asked behind me.
"There’s no translation. Just look at what Roy did to the scene."
Marcus raised an eyebrow as he took in the mis-sized furniture and contorted people. "You’ll have to talk to him on that."
"Was there something you needed?" Marcus and I didn't get along, though we were civil if we needed to work with each other.
"Sam asked me to check on the progress of the bank scene."
"It's done, and I sent it back to him the other day."
"He sent it back with questions."
I opened my email and that's when my computer exploded. Not literally, but it did several things, it wasn't supposed to do, ending with an explosion at a volume that was louder than should have been where I had my speakers at. I glanced at them. The volume had been turned up. The screen went blank and nothing responded.
"That filshton." I turn on Marcus. "Do you have anything to do with this? Did you help her?"
"What? Who?"
"Kat."
"No. I haven't seen her in days. I don't know anything about this. I'm done pranking you."
I called down to the front desk to see if Kat was still waiting. I was told she was with a couple of officers. After letting IT know what was going on, I went to wait outside the door of the interview room so she couldn’t slip out.
When they were finally done, she grinned when she saw me.
"If you lost any data, if anyone goes free due to your tampering, I will rebuild Cobra’s cage in the palace dungeon and leave you there to rot."
Kat's eyes grew wide at my threat. "It was just a little thank you for your wonderful advice about Marcus."
"How could you assume he was interested in you when we were talking about pranks?"
"It was only an animation that would lock your computer until was rebooted. Replace your second browser icon with your email one."
"No more pranks in the station. There’s too much at risk. What if Cobra was freed because of you?”
She looked stricken at the thought. "I'll stop at the station and anywhere that might be involved in the investigation," she promised.
"And my computer?"
"It just needs a hard reboot. Really."
"You're sure?"
"I swear. Let the IT guys do it. You said you weren't good with computers."
"I'm not."
"Ma'am, you interfere with any more for equipment, we'll arrest you," one of the officers warned.
"I said I was done."
They escorted her downstairs and outside. I watched her get into her van and drive away before talking with IT.
My computer was back running quickly. I was able to fix the bank scene for Sam. Roy helped me straighten out the scene he'd been working on. He figured out the still scenes but was confused when it came to animations. I couldn't fault him. It took me a while to learn, and I had help from those in the chat group.

Excellent
Wolfenshire
I'm completely in agreement. Physical therapy is ridiculous. I was sent there after my car accident; it did nothing. Awesome addition to the story.
