Description

This is my first test of a rigged vehicle in Blender. The model is not mine but I did rig it, though it was done using a rigging aid. I'll be rigging a number of my own vehicles in Blender in due course using the same add-on. Next time I upload a video of an animated vehicle it will be driving through some worthwhile scenery. Years ago it would have taken weeks to get to this stage because without rigging aids like Rig-a-Car setting up a vehicle this well is tricky. Rig-a-Car really makes it easy once you read the documentation — or as I did, follow a YouTube tutorial. So I started learning about rigging and animating vehicles on Friday evening and by Sunday evening this was done. No, it's not an amazing bit of animation and I'll do better in time, but for a first effort it's not bad. You can see the front of the car rise under the initial acceleration and the body sways slightly in the corners. This kind of suspension movement becomes quite easy to create with a good rig, and yet once I named the parts of the car correctly the entire rig was created automatically by Rig-a-Car in less than a second. That's a lovely add-on! Eevee rendered much faster but I didn't like the quality of the shadows and although I know they can be improved I have no idea how to do that yet. So this animation rendered in Cycles as a background task in less than an hour, with render times varying between eight and fifteen seconds per frame depending upon how close to the camera the car was. This Mac Pro is making me smile a lot...

Nice! Looks really good, mate!

I'm hoping I can get a little more organized and start messing with Blender a bit after the Holidays..
