Description

The fuzzy Fjord* looks longingly at the cozy cottage, not because she wants to go inside where it’s warm, you should know, but because she’s hoping someone will soon come out with peppermint snacks! ==AMY’S NOTES== I’ve been away from Poser for over a year, for various reasons, and I’ve been having the hardest time figuring out how to get back into it, as I have so much content and so many ideas that I easily get overwhelmed, esp. when it comes to setting up lighting and fixing materials for a new scene. So I figured I’d ease back into it by re-using some of my earlier scenes and putting different characters into them. I first used the backdrop in the scene above in Dashing Through the Pasture on a Snowy Evening. The Redhouse cottage is one of the first things I bought for Poser, many years ago, and I can’t believe this is the first time I’ve actually used it in a render! Actually, scratch that. Of course I can believe it, as I have a ridiculous dragon’s hoard worth of content I haven’t used. Yet! Rendered in February 2022 in Poser Pro 11 Firefly at 3200 × 1800 pixels. View full size on my blog. ==CREDITS== SCENE: Fairytale Collection -- Cottage by Redhouse Studios; snow on cottage roof and bench by Snarly’s SnowMachine; TerraDome2; Flink’s Snowfall 3; Flink’s Conifer 2; Evergreen Fir Trees by Merlin Studios. CHARACTER: HW Horse with custom strand hair and coat modified from the dun texture in CWRW Grullas for the HW Horse, plus morphs from Shetland and Draft. * I explain more about how and why I set up a Fjord for the HW Horse in Fuzzy HWHorse Dreams of Summer

It's wonderful to see you posting again! What a lovely winter scene you have created! I especially like your Norwegian Fjord!

I hope that you have been doing well!

Thank you so much, Flint_Hawk! I have another scene nearly ready that features a more closeup view of my HW Horse Fjord. She looks remarkably like one of my Fjords, although I guess she's no longer "mine" as I found her a new home last winter, when my wife and I moved from the horse farm to the 'burbs. I still have a Percheron/TB mare (who will be an amazing 29 years old this spring), boarded nearby, but I let both Fjords go to folks who would enjoy riding them, as I can no longer ride. The Perch/TB mare looks a lot like the HW Horse in the default shape and color, so maybe one day I'll try making a scene with her! Hope you've been doing well also :-)

Beautiful image!

I have a similar dragon's hoard of items, so I can empathize. I have to use PzDB to even pretend I can keep track of it all.

I hope you continue to enjoy making such beautiful scenes.

Thank you for the comment, Thalek! Sometimes I wonder if I enjoy buying content (esp. on sale) almost as much as I enjoy putting things together in Poser! Early on, I convinced myself that "you never know" when I might use something for a graphic novel I was going to use Poser to create, but that rationalization kinda fell apart when I started buying stuff that would never fit in the novel's world! I also really like supporting the amazingly talented artists who create stuff for Poser, so that's the justification I give myself for buying many things, including paying full price for some. I'd say about 10-15% of what I've bought has turned out to be duds, not useable for various reasons, but most of my unused content is just waiting for me to be struck with inspiration!

As for keeping track of content, I use a Mac, so I assign Finder tags to all my content, making it easy for me to find, for example, a fancy dress for V4 or all my green eye textures, just by searching tags. I also keep everything in one Runtime and just re-organize the heck out of it, putting things into folders that make sense to me. I even store all of a prop's materials (and lights and cameras) inside the Props library for easier access and it works just fine! I love Poser's flexibility :-)

Thank you, Mazzam! I've been enjoying your tour through older content and would like to do something similar with all the old but still perfectly good content I've never used!

Thank you, Kelchris! I love your Cookie renders so much that one of these days I'm going to take Cookie (and her own small dragon hoard's worth of content) out of storage and play around with her again! She was the first Poser figure I fell in love with :-)

Good to see you are back!

What a beautiful scene (and that is coming from someone who is fed up with Norwegian winter) and well done with the fur!

Thank you, Cassie! Has your winter been particularly harsh this year? Colorado was unusually warm and dry for the longest time, but we're making up for it more recently with frequent snow and occasional subzero temps. The view out the window is inspiring me to make winter scenes while I still can! Thankfully I have plenty of wintry props to play with. What I need is more winter clothing, esp. for Nursoda's folks, but by the time I feel like messing with 3D modeling again, it'll likely be spring :-)

Looks warm andcsy - well insulated to judge by the snow on the roof!

A good return to the world of Poser, my dear. I like the chilly feel to picture which really evokes Winter. The whiff of smoke from the chimney of the cottage makes me want to go in and get close to the fire which no doubt would be warm and inviting. The horse is a lovely touch that adds life to the picture. =)

I feel your pain with regard to the size of your unused library of content... >.<

Thanks for sharing your work!

Thank you so much for your comment, Molly! I added the chimney smoke in Photoshop (as you probably guessed), and it does make the cottage look more cozy! I also have the interior for the cottage, which is quite cozy and charming, but I've only used a small part of it in one render (Fehn & Vila Survive Christmas 2019). Not sure why, except that I tend to have a harder time with interior renders, esp. when the set is so cute that I want all of it to show (which makes it rather hard to frame characters in a pleasing way)! Perhaps we need a "use your unused content" challenge!

this is so cool!!! Grand image! I do not want to talk about unused content. Certainly not for V3!!!

Thanks for the comment! By the time I got into Poser, V4 had replaced V3, but Aiko 3 was still around, and I got loads of stuff for her. She's pretty cute, but all those unorganized dials kinda drive me batty! I also went nuts for all the toons, like Krystal, Kyle, Koshini, Ichiro, Cookie, and Chip, and I bought or downloaded everything I could find for them. Especially Cookie. At one point I thought I was going to populate a whole project using characters based on Cookie! But for as much unused figure related content as I have, I have twice as many unused props and scenes. Some of it was on sale too low to resist, but a lot of it was just so pretty or interesting that I had to have it, even though I had no idea how I might use it. I'm going to try to figure out how to use some of it over the next few months, as a kind of challenge. With the eclectic and detailed renders you do, I'm guessing you've probably used a surprising amount of the props and such you've collected!
