Description

Even Lepus Ladies like to feel the wind in their fur! ==AMY’S NOTES== I bet you want to know how this happened :-) I had set up the Lepus (hare) character for V4 and was going through my gazillion outfits for V4, trying to find one that might show off her cute bunny tail w/o needing a CA. When I tried this one, I noticed that the skirt sits just below the tail, allowing it to peek out without my needing to adjust anything. The outfit looks well suited to a dusty area, so I started searching for some kind of desert, when I remembered this cool wind board. And there you go: a humanoid hare riding a wind board, and apparently enjoying the heck out of it! (Bonus: I also got to show her cute bunny feet!) I obviously used DOF, and this time I used structure’s handy EasyDOF script to make sure her head was in focus. I also added motion blur to the landscape and the board’s wheels, although I’m not sure you can tell b/c of the DOF. This scene also reminded me that IK can occasionally come in handy while posing. I usually keep it turned off, but after spending a long time getting the Lepus lady’s hands, arms, and feet posed the way I wanted, I realized she should be leaning further back. So I enabled IK for the hands and feet and just translated her hip. Phew! Rendered in March 2022 using Firefly in Poser Pro 11.3 for Mac at 1800 × 2250 pixels. Thanks! Working with Sparky's creature morphs for the Gen4 figures has made me realize how much expression you can convey through body language, like head back and mouth open, given that the usual expression morphs don't work all that well with such a heavily morphed face. Sometimes we need to run up against limits to learn to do things a new way!

Now that's unique and clever. The DOF looks convincing and I just like this scene all together. Great work as always.

Thanks so much for the comment! I have to give rps53 some credit for inspiring me to get the Lepus (and Bear) characters for the Gen4 figures, but riding a wind board was entirely this Lepus Lady's idea :-)

LOL, oh my, I just LOVE this!!! It made me giggle, very comical scene and fitting title! I love reading your notes, it's fun to hear how artist's put their image together (especially when the renders take on a life of their own) and I also learn a lot from them. The DOF works well here. And the tones are very nice too. Last but not least, he has a wonderful expression!

Thanks so much for the comments, RubyTuesday! Putting this scene together made me smile, so I'm glad it gave you a giggle as well :-) I'm also glad you enjoy the notes I include. I know some (maybe most?) folks skip that part, and that's OK. They're there for folks like you (and Molly) who enjoy sharing a bit of insight into the creative process! I wish more artists would include that kind of info with their posts, as it actually helps me enjoy their art more!

I'm with Ruby T regarding the title; I love puns. Your work process as you describe it here is not unlike mine. I use IK a lot to give my characters a slight tip out of perfect balance, as it lends a very nice sense of action; it surely does here. The ecstatic expression on her face is GREAT as the central aspect of the picture (you could have cheated the wind surfboard and all a bit more to the right to put her face a bit more centrally but certainly not necessary due to your tasteful use of DoF). Thanks very much for sharing! It's a pleasure to view.

Thanks so much for the comment, Molly! My frustrations with IK go back to my early days of learning Poser, when it did nothing but get in the way of how I was trying to pose figures. But I can see the value of using it when you want the figure's hips to be cocked to the side or rotated and yet have the legs look natural. Karina's S-16 version of V4 has some handy hip controls built in that solve this problem, but when I use just about any other figure, the problem I most run into is designing a pose from hips outwards, and then deciding that I need to change the hips, which of course changes the whole dang pose! I wish more figures had a "pelvis" joint that would let you adjust some rotations in that region without rotating the whole figure!

Sometimes when I want a bit of natural "jitter" in a pose, I'll turn enable Auto Balance for a figure and move it around a bit. Even if it doesn't help with the pose I'm going for, it's entertaining to play with :-)

Thanks so much for taking a look and leaving a comment, rps53! You should know that it's your fault I got the Lepus (and the Bear) morphs for the Gen4 figures :-) You are also to blame for my rather joyful use of Painnt on various renders! This scene isn't exactly in the style of your work, but in a way it was inspired by it! If I had to describe your overall style in one word, it would be: "unexpected." And I dig that vibe too :-)
