Description
Zenobia was queen of of Plamyra in modern day Syria, during the 3rd Century. In the spring of 270, her armies routed the Roman Third Legion under Trassus, expanding her territory to encompass much of Anatolia and Egypt, and Palmyra was, for a while, the dominant power in the near east.
I've attempted this subject before, here is a more overtly classical take inspired by Alma Tadema, Godward et al. This was made for a competition over on DA.

This is fantastic work!

History inspires us but if we add your talent this gives a superb scene. Was Zenobia this pretty ? I must read more about her and Palmyra and not only the books I have treating of it's recent destruction.

She is described as "a staunch beauty" in the "Historia Augusta", written at the time of Diocletian and Constantine I. However much that has been written about her is rather apocryphal and even contemporary accounts are wildly contradictory... fertile ground for the imagination!

Very nice joe - love to see historicals particularly when not all the details are known. Lets us imagine...

Damn, hopefully not the same contest I entered in. Looks good - like the details.

This is really cinematic, and beautifully done, Joe! Wow! History seems to repeat itself with smaller armies kicking the butts of larger ones..

Your new image looks fantastic once again! I wonder why men always have to bow so humbly to these female despots (or vis-vera)? Oh yes, because otherwise their heads will roll!

Fantastic scene, and posing and expression, Joe. They are just so natural. Her expression, lol, it's perfect... "what is this peasant doing here?" Wonderful work :)
