"You might say I'm a dreamer"
I have loved photography since I was a child and also love graphic art (I am the kind of person that WILL buy a book or CD for its cover) but sadly I only became aware of 3D art after crossing paths with Dragonluna. I immediately fell in love with her work and after a while decided to give it try, mostly because I wanted to make pics to go along with a fanfic I was writing. I am neither a writer nor a 3D artist, I just like to daydream and have ideas and fantasies, and I love anything that has to do with visual art. I am still very limited with the program and have loads to learn and I am also quite fearful of posting my pics considering the high quality of the renders on this site, but I guess we all have to start somewhere and this is where I start, sharing my fantasies with you. Thank you for the taking the time to look at my work. :)

Thank you for using my heavy ginkgo tree. Lovely kids! and the cute little bird :) I agree, EZSkin is a really amazing script. It works well on my old Mac. And, I read your reply to my comment. I only know simple material settings. It seems that it was convenient, rather.

You know, my iMac actually handled the tree quite well, both in setting up the scene and in rendering it, didn't really seem that heavy at all. The render took about 2 hours with pretty basic settings and DOF activated. I plan on using it again and capturing the entire tree next time maybe. Thanks again, I am so glad you like it and thank to YOU for making the tree (and the house).

Thank you Steve!!!

Then why pray tell is the red robin out of focus? Depth of field blur is a toy that should be retired to the toy box, locked in and hidden in the attic.

I understand your pov and thank you for your feedback, but keep in mind that this scene started with the child and the bunny simply enjoying the sun and the arrival of spring. As I was working on the scene I decided to add first the tree and then the robin and then when trying to think of a title (I had first thought of "Springtime is Here" but it seemed too bland) I decided to use the title of this cheerful song. I did have some doubts about using DOF at that point, even tried it but the leaves were way too distracting and when it comes down to it I don't really mind the robin being out of focus, actually I prefer it, I repeat, for me he isn't the main subject of the image, the child and the bunny are (I explain in the description that this is based on childhood memories of me and my stuffed animals, I even chose the line from the lyrics that mentions childhood). In any case, DOF is my best friend, both in real life photography and in renders, I will never lock it up even if sometimes people might not agree with how I've used it.

So charming and full of bright spring colors! Wouldn't you have liked to have a fuzzy bunny friend like C. Rabbit as a kid? I mean one that could gaze out the window with you of his own accord, of course, b/c it sounds like you did have some fuzzy bunny friends :-) I think the DOF works fine here, given what you wanted to feature as a subject. And I know what you mean about how tree leaves can become too distracting if they're in sharp focus. DOF helps to soften features like that and draw our eyes to the cute bunny-kid and bunny.... kid!

Thank you Amy!! Yes, as a child I often played alone and had quite the imagination (I wasn't an only child but my siblings were between 16-20 yers older than me!) So I often found myself talking to my imaginary friends and plush toys and wishing they were real. C. Rabbit has really brought back some memories and that is what inspired these images. That said, Mazzam has a point, and I did indeed ponder my decision for a few minutes. But in the end the tree and the bird remain accessories to the scene, with the lovely Ginko serving as a frame around the little bunny pair. Had I chosen a different title (like Friends Forever or Springtime Something) it wouldn't have been an issue, and I only chose the Bob Bob Bobbin' song because of that line about childhood, otherwise I wouldn't have considered it. But I do understand that the thought process that happens in our head while putting together a scene might not always come across in the right way, and if the focus were indeed the bird, this out of focus birdie would have been wrong and my choices would have been different.

Sweet joyful image...give Daz Studio a try !
RubyTuesday70
Thank you gaius, much appreciated! I just got a new iMac last year and I don't believe I can use Daz on that, have invested quite a bit in Poser now and I'm afraid I can't invest in more hardware and products for Daz. But I have to say, for what I like to do with 3Dart Poser does the trick.

You've got another winning series going here. I think your use of DoF is effective and accomplishes what you wanted it to accomplish. As for the material mods? Also great. Of course, the main thing is does the picture have "feelz"? Oh, heck yes!! =) Thank you for sharing, I am coming to look forward to everything that you care to share!

Thank you so much Molly, it means a lot to me to hear you say that! Working with this little bunny is addicting, I now find myself torn between wanting to complete the Puppy series and wanting to do more bunny scenes (and now more officer scenes haha!)! But I'm not complaining, this makes up for those long dry spells when inspiration and my muse are MIA. I also agree that sometimes the "feelz" are the most important thing, even in photography and art in general.

This is so delightful and heartwarming! Excellent work!
I normally do my images backwards; I select the character that seems to want to jump out of runtime and then listen to what that character wants to wear and where he/she wants to go. Yes I know they don't really speak, and I really don't have voices in my head but it's so much easier if I go along with them than try swimming up stream...:)
RubyTuesday70
Thank you so much!!! I love hearing other artist's thought process, I find it so interesting to know the "behind the scenes" to their renders. For me it depends, sometimes I know exactly what I want to make (like in the puppy series, I have about 16 images mapped out, now I only need to find the time to do them, am working on scene number 7 at the moment.) Other times I start fiddling with stuff I just bought and the ideas come as I go along. And then there are the times I fiddle for hours and the render ends up in Poser limbo on my HD, wandering about like a poor lost soul and wondering what it did wrong to not be posted, lol. One thing is certain, these characters have a mind of their own, and many times I have ended up going where they take me instead of where I wanted to go in the first place.

Totally beautiful and quality work! Great color use , too!
