Description
One of the more intriguing and subtle plotlines in LOTR (and one completely omitted by the ham-fisted movie adaptation) is the evolution of Éowyn from warrior to healer after the battle of the Pelennor Fields, while she convalesces in Minas Tirith. Here we see her, anxious and feeling caged while her brother is off to war in Mordor. She wears the blue cloak worked with silver stars given her by Faramir

I really like the portraits of women where their beauty emanates from what we can guess from their interiority. I also appreciate how the decor and its environment can become metaphors for this state of mind.

Thank you. That was indeed the intention here, with the pillars of the porch being the bars of the metaphorical cage she feels herself confined by...

a very fine composition and render, very dramatic with the contrasts in play

Very nice. If you think the Jackson films are ham fisted, wait for HBO's canon stomping prequel....

I haven't read LOTR in years so I appreciate the explanation although I think the picture is incredible standing alone. It's always a bit non-intuitive to have key lighting behind the subject and just a bit of fill in front but is conveys such a subtle mood of... hmm... mystery? Uncertainty? Change? Anyway, I love the resulting image which is a pleasure to view.
Thanks for sharing!

Well spotted! In this case , most of the light is coming from the open end of the colonnade, out of shot, (so works in terms of physics), but I must admit I cheated a bit and also added little extra backlight to illuminate the hair for dramatic effect... :)

Tremendous moody atmosphere. Super lighting also.

Nice to see your still in the LOTR...and not shied away from it....oblivious many avenues you could go down and plenty of material, interested to see where you go with this...!!..as for the image...very elegant and well crafted scene, quality lighting as already mentioned, as i read it the description of the mantle was mostly blue with stars only at the top and bottom...some artistic license....tho...!!...everyone has there view....again first class work and render...!!

The wonderful lighting & moody setting really adds to the drama of this scene! Your character is beautiful!

This is absolutely breathtaking! Éowyn is so beautiful here, as she heals from the recent events of losing her uncle, and taking out the Nazgul king. Your lighting here is worthy of an Academy Award, good sir.

I don't what you're talking about because I never read LOTR...But I nevertheless can appreciate this very very good image...her expression is perfect and so is the whole image.

It's been too long since I read LOTR to remember details, but I love the mood in this scene.
