Description
The two guards at the city gates placidly observed the market in the midafternoon heat. "There's something you don't see everyday, Chauncey," ventured one.
"What's that, Edgar?" replied the second. "The landlady of 'Ye Olde Rodent's Retreat' arguing with the flesh vendor?"
"No, not that, although it's unusual to see her about," Edgar replied.
"Then you mean the two halflings considering a purchase of fruit and vegetables?"
"No, not that either, although such creatures are not common. How about that odd couple the Woodsman is watching."
"You mean the comely feline lass, her short companion and their pet rat?"
Edgar nodded lazily. "That'd be it. Don't reckon I've ever seen a dwarf with a sword quite that long."
"Mmmm," Chauncey agreed.
Unaware of the guard's languid vigilance the Cat Girl, Sir Squeaker and Jorl Bloodbringer planned the coming night's exploit.
Molly's art notes: Set up and rendered in Poser 12.0.757 with Superfly Cycles 2 and tweaked in Photoshop for a bit of glow (spectral bloom) and vignette. Bright sunlight is always easy for me. =) (Smile)
The catgirl is A3 using some very old material from DAZ I was reminded of some time ago by Mazzam. The textures haven't aged well and I messed with them to try to give the impression of fur rather than plastic (the hair was the worst >.<). The Dwarf is by Sixus1 and is available at Renderosity. Squeeker is from Poser software. Utla and Nunatak, the halflings, are by Nursoda. The grumpy landlady is based on V4 with morphs and textures by the divine Tempesta3D. The flesh vendor she is arguing with over the price of a fine sow is based on M4 as is the Woodsman watching the odd couple. The textures for these male characters are by Henrika and Mortem Vetus. The guards are Lo Rez DAZ characters from back in the days of the original Victoria, millenium woman. The setting is by BlueTreeStudios. The trees outside the gate are by Flink.

Wonderful dynamic scene, great poses and expressions, superb atmosphere and lighting, brilliant render.
I assume Han Solo brought the deer :)
Magnificent Masterpiece of Finest Arts. I love it!
MollyFootman
Han Solo? He's about the only character I DIDN'T put in the scene! XD
Thank you for a fun comment, Marius! <3

Im surprised that the cat girl could contain herself from chasing the chickens. They are the perfect size for her to play with :D Wonderful composing and posing! I love these complicated scenes you create!
MollyFootman
Cat girl IS surprisingly restrained, isn't she? XD
Thank you for the lovely encouragement! I really appreciate it and enjoy hearing from you!

Thank you so much for the lovely comment, DG. I need to get caught up with my favorites to follow around here but I seem to remember some really GREAT Mandalorian art from you! =)
I've got a lot of irons in the fire but I'm not done with these characters yet. They've really been a different direction for me and full of new challenges and lots of fun.

Fantastic lively scene :) Love all the poses and color pops.
MollyFootman
Thank you, Kellie. I should probably never do any scenes except in bright sunlight! XD
Kidding aside, this one was a bit slow in coming together in my mind but I'm very pleased with the final product and so appreciate your comment! <3

I love all the little interactions going on here! The guards' conversation really helps to bring each of them to life :-) Love the expressions of delight on Utla and Nunatak, the look of consternation on the landlady's face, the quiet observations of the Woodsman, and the oblivious forward momentum of Cat Girl, who's about to raise some chicken ruckus! Poor little Sir Squeaker probably never thought he'd be keeping close to a cat for safety! Perhaps he might feel a bit safer riding on Jori's shoulder?
The landlady's dress reveals one of the most annoying problems with how some folks made clothes for V4. If you follow her mesh topology too closely, you end up with "boob cling" that's particularly noticeable in a character whose breasts are no longer those of a young teenager! (I've spent many, many hours working out what causes the issue and how to resolve it, and it's not easy, although using the morph brush to edit the outfit's breast morphs can be helpful! I also kinda wonder how this dress would hold up to being converted to dynamic?)

I'm so glad you're enjoying the story, Amy. Jorl and Sir Squeaker may become friends but at the moment the Dwarf is still disgusted with reliance on a rat to steal something. XD I was initially thinking of telling the story of this scene as a conversation between the three adventurers but after I inserted the two guards... ;-P I don't know if you are familiar with 'The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle' but if you are, the guards' conversation pattern should ring a bell! =)
As for the 'boobie problem' with conforming clothing? I sometimes go to the trouble of using the morph brush to fix that but wasn't feeling quite that energetic when I was composing this picture. I suspect this bit of clothing would do fine in cloth room but I admit I use that tool only rarely. I have to think about a work flow for it in complicated pictures like this... =/

Splendid details!

Thank you so much! =)

A fabulous scene! The details were fun to search for as I went back and forth from your story to the scene. He's right, that sword is quite long for that dwarf character. :) Well done, well done!
MollyFootman
I'm glad you enjoyed it, Bakapo! I always enjoy hearing from you! <3
I admit I was giggling when I finally got to 'what you don't see every day' and it turned out to be Jorl's enormous sword! XD

They may be odd but not like the original cast on the tv show.
Your scene is so well done and very eye catching.
MollyFootman
Heh. Well the odd couple are my main characters, Steve, but those two guards were meant to reminiscent of the old "Rock and Bullwinkle" show which I'm guessing you're familiar with. =)
Thanks for the comment, my dear!

I find your lack of faith disturbing.., just try to remember Han Solo's face while sitting at the table in the bar while negotiating; same attitude with the hunter, next to the deer; except Solo was looking more confident.😊
I can even hear Solo saying.., "oh deer.."😂
MollyFootman
XD Thanks for making me smile again, Marius! <3

Ye Olde Rodent's Retreat - lol. What's a flesh vendor?
Excellent scene. Every detail perfect. Two out of place characters in a historical scene and they look totally at home. Well done!
MollyFootman
The flesh vendor is the dude talking with the landlady; he sells flesh for consumption like the pig, deer, brace of quail, etc, in the booth they are standing in front of and that the huntsman is leaning against. He's kind of like a butcher except he doesn't cut up the meat and sells the dead animals for their flesh to customers who will butcher the meat themselves. =)

More local color for this wonderful adventure! Love it! Most intriguing and original work! Bravo! Most delightful continuation!

Thank you, my dear! I'm grateful for the encouragement! =)

Lots going on here - wonderful to see 17 characters interacting in a believable manner. I noted Perpetual's comments regarding 'boob cling' - it's a problem all 'round (not a pun, really). Daz has some assets available to reduce this but they aren't flawless, particularly with certain shapes.
More fun!
MollyFootman
Thanks, JD. When I'm feeling more energetic I have ways of getting rid of "boob cling" but would certainly welcome something that automates that. Of course, the most obvious answer is to avoid conforming clothing and use dynamic cloth (D-Force in DAZ Studio, I believe) for all your pictures. Thing is, that would really require me to change my work flow a lot so I don't use that form of costume very often.
I hope you'll keep enjoying this and other stories and be able to comment again: "More fun!" (Although you might have been being a bit philosophical about the fun of trying to get conforming clothing to work right, I choose to believe you were commenting on you enthusiasm for my story XD)

I was - and dynamic/dForce isn't always a sure bet, particularly if the ladies are generously endowed or somewhat 'natural'. Your characters shouldn't need to get into all of that - they would in fact be better off without such attention. Keep them cute, and fun, and likeable...
MollyFootman
Now that's a suggestion I can get behind! It's less work. XD
Thanks for continuing our chat a bit longer, JD!
