It fried my CPU while rendering, it went up to 32C-35C on different cores. Otherwise it stays cool on 25C.
My CPU uses ordinary air cooling, no fancy water cooling because they are more expensive and I can manage to keep my CPU cool enough under full load. Of course I can prove it with real-time streaming but who cares. Many still believe a new CPU is OK to run 89C-93C under heavy load. I do not and I never did believe it. That's why it runs as good as new for a decade.

I love you too, hon. My CPU is 10 years old, I assume it's old enough. However, I have also 2 graphic cards, an RTX 2060 working together with an RTX 3070 in Superfly. Those were roughly 1100 bucks both. I expected prices would go nuts and I bought the last RTX 3070 in store with a low price. I was right, they still both cost at the very least double now. Very subjective to the individual...depends what you want out of it..?..or what you expect to achieve and your views on what's correct...or your style of image...lots and lots of variables...

Cool image tho....will always go unbiased render.. that appears noiseless and smooth and probabilistically correct. A biased rendering method is not necessarily wrong, and can still produce images close to those given by the rendering equation if the estimator is consistent enough....

But like everything its individual preference....

Even if I had access to a farm, I would still prefer parallel computing for obvious reasons. The only farm I can access is way smaller, a couple of hens and small gear.😊

The 1080ti is still powerful and it can work together under win 10 next to an RTX flawlessly. Proper render settings might still dramatically improve your render times if you are using default render settings.

The default render settings work fine for most scenes but sometimes it's better to use more efficient settings. Shaders, lights and render settings are one piece, they are not separate pieces and they all together drive a better and faster render. All three need to be adapted to properly work. With patience, you can squeeze more juice out of the 1080ti by optimizing those three factors. Never ever overclock the CPU ot the GPU/video card, never ever. A colder CPU and GPU will run 10% slower but it's life span will last 10 times longer. The hotter they work, the less efficient they become and for sure, they will die faster than they should.

I do tweak settings but my tendency to load up scenes with all sorts of tidbits slows things down. A pinup in an HDRI can take as little as 25 seconds where a post apocalyptical scene in a room can take hours, with wild swings that aren't always predictable. It's like the proverbial box of chocolates...:)

I love you too, my dear Gwen. I started with a GTX 750, later came the 960 and happily now I have the new architecture.
The RTX family sports tensor cores and other goodies. I strongly recommend the new RTX video cards, they work great with Iray and Cycles/Superfly. It also needs win 10 64 bit or better and obviously the latest drivers offers the very best. I would not consider an upgrade the 1650 or 1660 for 3D, an RTX 2060 I consider the minimum required for a true upgrade.

The RTX made the difference between a ten hour render versus a couple of minutes. Not to mention instant noise removal when rendering with Iray. The AI denoiser uses the tensor cores.

Looks good to me. I know the struggles of trying to render on PC that's not top tier. I got lucky that my better half spent some cash on a not too expensive gaming PC. It's not always about what you have but how you use it.

I used Firefly for years and you can achieve very good results as you have here. I have come to very much prefer Superfly but the artistic control you can achieve with a biased rendering engine is always tempting. =)
