It looks great mif - you wouldn't want much more light, even with figures. Maybe some sky drama - but that's it. Contrast is quite a wonderful thing :)

Always going to be harder to achieve a clean render with low lighting...in any application it's a challenge...but its really good for a 2nd render....!!

like everything in life...there is always a choice to make, path of least resistance or the harder route

biased: uses optimization algorithms to greatly speed up the render time. but because it is doing so, it is not strictly just modeling the physics of light, rather it is giving an approximation.

pro's: fast, can achieve/approach photorealism, allows great artistic flexibility to play with outcomes

con's: usually require more set up and tweaking; if you know what you are doing, you can get great results fast, if not, you can spend a lot of time learning to use the renderer and/or have difficulty getting good results with every render....

unbiased: models the physics of light without cutting corners, though this takes considerably longer.

pro's: more straight-forward ( possibly depending on skill set and understanding ) you can concentrate on the important things - lighting materials and composition , it is what it ( again depending on you understanding of the principles and knowledge of lighting textures and materials ) so you inherently spend less time fiddling around with materials and lights and settings, can more consistently produce photorealistic results if necessary or the complete opposite depending on your art style...its purely personal preferences

con's: render times are orders of magnitude greater....again this will depend on the system and what your running

About the render engines, I couldn't say it shorter. I also know only a handful of people on this planet are able to write from scratch the headers and properly implement the classes required by a render engine, I have no doubts about that. That's for sure a very narrow playground and it only goes one way, for sure isn't growing. Those old guys make things tick for real in 3D.

I'm old enough but I'm not one of those guys, I'm a mere mortal. I only know very simple things, like one, two, three, four..., many...😂

In a nutshell its finding that happy medium between speed and quality and pushing it one way or the other, that's shorter ..LOL.!!

I can't swear for you, I can only do it for myself. Those guys are modest and you never know who you are talking to. Only one of their kind can confirm but for sure, they will never do it in public and probably they will never let you know it, I realize that.
I'll now take my plastic shovel and go back to play in the sand.😊

Very nice low light render; I especially like the fire in the fireplace!
