Wonderful narrative to this, especially with Wardle's mysteriously allegorical "All seemed to sleep, the timid hare on form", and the multi-layered story of the poem it references... maybe the aged storyteller herself is the 501 year-old Gyneth of the painting...

I'm now a bit more learned having viewed the art of Arthur Wardle and recognize one of his works on the wall behind the story teller. I'm not sure about all of the allegory here but I love the mature story teller (you do older people so well) and the imagery of little people peeping in at her and the miniature deer.
