Description
Another stab at doing justice to the classic "She-Devil with a Sword!"
Once again, this is an illustration for a fanzine (in other words, this is for print, so the halftone effect is exaggerated to make sure the dots make it through to the printed page). This is my second serious attempt at using the KraftTone brushes from True Grit Texture Supply Co. This brush set is a product that emulates old-fashioned comic book coloring techniques from the 1930s through the 1980s. This is a very nice set of tools, which are available for Clip Studio Paint, Photoshop, Procreate and the Affinity tools.
Now, before any of you purists get your zip-a-tone in a dither, I am fully aware that I am cheating with this illustration. I didn't rely only on the KarftTone coloring; I also used a backing color. This was on purpose and not an error. So, unlike my first attempt (see my other "Red Sonja - Retro" illustration) where I tried to faithfully imitate the old-school look, this time I'm trying to fuse the generous tones of modern coloring and fusing them with the retro halftone dots of yesteryear.
I used my standard workflow: I rendered the figures in Poser Pro 11 using the Comic Book Preview. I then took them into CSP for clean up, inking adjustment and coloring. Figure is a customized Victoria 4.2 wearing the cool Red Sonja cosplay costume by the inimitable Terry McG. Hair is End of Summer Hair by goldtassel and Daz Originals. Pose is by Mighty Might. Expressions from various sources, but include Darkworld's Intensity Faces.

Thank you! I was pretty pleased with the expression I captured, and it seems to suit Red Sonja perfectly.
