Description
It was recently Kate's 33rd birthday and her sister, Holly, gave her an amazing present [see this upload].
However, along with the sweater, Holly also had to give Kate something else.
Money.
From their parents.
The problem is, Kate and her parents had a very deep falling out many years ago when she was 18, before Holly was even born, and they have barely spoken since.
The money is a problem and Kate does not know what to do with it. Can they buy her forgiveness? Or are they paying for the guilt they now feel for not reconciling things before it got to this stage?
Kate likes to get up early every morning to start work, when her baby son is still asleep, giving her several hours of quiet to get a decent start on the writing contracts she has at the moment, but this morning, after the money has been sitting in a drawer for over a week, she decides it is time to actually count it (£700!) and work out what to do with it that will sit easy with her conscience.

Sounds like quite a dilemma, although the fact that it's in cash might make her decision a bit easier. If it was a check, she could refuse to cash it, which would send her parents a message that she's not interested. But it would be tricky to return cash, and I'm sure she can use it. Hopefully it doesn't come with any strings attached!

The only message her parents said to pass on when they instructed Holly to give Kate the money was to get something nice for herself with it and something for Oliver, too.
