Description
Took this snapshot of my old girl when she attended a Triumph national meet last week. This was the only one I took as I was busy working the show and never had a chance to bother with her. Most of the other cars had left the field.
The car needs a few weeks more to complete, but she runs and stops and does most car things well enough though we had to put yellow tape on the hood (bonnet) to hold it down on the short run from the trailer as it was hung the night before and adjusting these early aluminum hoods takes care and patience. Still haven't hung the top (hood) or fitted the side curtains. Everything on the car is original to factory specifications. As the car is so early, many of the parts are unique and took years to find.
These little beasts are quite rapid and a hoot to drive, though they can be a little scary in today's world of texting teenagers in hot-hatches.
Anyway, another love my stuff shot.....sorry.

Beautiful car! Thanks for sharing this with us...your car looks like a true labor of love and your pride and joy my friend! I used to have a 1967 Triumph TR4-A with the IRS rear end and dual side draft Weber carburetors and an overdrive unit. That British car brings back great memories I had driving it on the open roads. I miss that car...the only thing I don't miss is dealing with the Lucas ignition system! "lol" :-)

Thanks Johnny- at times it was a labor of love and at times just labor...the TR4-4As were the last of the TRs to get a lot of attention from restorers as it was all side-curtain cars or TR6s. The TR250 used to be the 'redheaded stepchild' until everybody had to have one. When they became too pricey, people discovered that the TR4-4A was in many respects the perfect blend of old and new - simple mechanics, unique 60s styling and greater comfort than the 2-3B.
Other than a Wedge, the 4-4A is the only TR I haven't owned at some point, though I tried. A completely undisturbed '62 4 in black and red turned up for sale many years ago at $600 with no rust, and a completely salvageable interior. I was looking for a TR6 to drive everyday but that car was a restorer's dream so I went to buy it, only to be beaten by a young lady in a halter and Daisy Duke shorts who jumped out of her boyfriend's AAR 'Cuda to run past me and hand the owner cash. I didn't get angry when she stuck her tongue out at me in triumph (pun intended).
A 4A would still be a nice driver....

It's clearly a beautiful vehicle from the days when to drive a car you needed to know what you were doing. Much different from the "fly by wire" sort of vehicles we drive now-a-days. I admire the work and attention to detail, JD. I have no hobby that compares. Thanks for sharing! =)

Thanks Molly - hadn't seen you in here in a bit and was frankly getting a little worried...
The car hobby is rewarding at times and frustrating always. When going for historical accuracy, it's always the latter - this little monster kept me busy searching for years, and fabricating when the hunt went dry as so many bits are unique compared to a TR3, or even a latter TR2. It's hard to believe it'll be 70 years old next year...

Love the sports cars from the 50's & 60's. Character, charisma and ingenuity. Art on wheels.
jdwtrxk
Thanks karasmic - everything was different then. No computers turning out clones that differ only in their badges...

Beautiful Triumph!

hanks x7 - the only things left to do is adjust the top and side curtains.
