Description

Hi and Happy New Year to everyone! This is my first real underwater pic with Bryce. I don't think it's original, but... :-) Credits: Free models dloaded from 3DCafe (octopus, amphors, fugu fish, anchor); aquatic plants are freebies from www.3dplants.com; standard Angelfish from Poser4 with mapping changed on 5 of the 6 individuals; plus, I tweaked headcheese materials (found in Renderosity FS section) for the terrains. All other textures by me. Tech Details: Composed and rendered in Bryce5, postwork in Photoshop to adjust colors and reduce brightness, over 42hrs rendering with AA Normal and Volumetric World turned on medium-high quality (for those interested about the settings, see my posting "Comparing three different Bryce renders" in this same gallery). Ok, that's all. Hope you enjoy it. As usual, any comment and/or criticism is more than welcome.

Man oh man, how do you do it? Chalk this up as another wonderful render to add to your collection that the rest of us could only dream to make.

thanks, very interesting - volumetric and yet still colorful. i had an 8-day render (called "bazaar") with similar findings, that is to say i did not like what happened to my colors. in the book "real world bryce 4" they suggest using gels on a radial light to "fake" caustics. anything for a more reasonable render time, eh? good stuff.

Thanx so much for all your kind comments, wow! __ @lemonjim: Jim, in fact these are faked caustics, with a gel applied on three very big spotlights placed over the water volumetric slab, I don't know if they have improved the rendertime, but you're absolutely right: anything for gaining some precious hours! :)

This is a beautiful underwater scene. Bryce amazes me. I have used Terragen a bit, and it's nice (free :P) but this is stunning.

I just don't know how long I'll be able to hold my breath. This image is Excellent! It really gives you a sense of being underwater. The colors and the way the light refracts give the entire piece a quite realistic edge to it. Wonderful my friend!!! ;-)
