"I wasn't scared, Gemma!" Madeleine Forrester still insists as Gemma's brother drops them off at Gemma's house while he goes to return the dinghy he borrowed for the girls to use. "I was being... cautious. That's what it was, okay?" "Whatever you say, Maddie!" Gemma laughs, quite serious about keeping Maddie's fear of boats a secret but finding her friend's denial that it is a fear quite amusing. They enter Gemma's kitchen after hanging their coats up. "We've all got phobias of some kind. I mean, take me... I totally freak out whe---" "It's not a phobia, either!" Maddie cries. "I was just taken by surprise, that's all." "Okay, look..." Gemma says as she opens the fridge and gets out two can of Coke, "I won't mention it to anyone else, that's a promise, but you can't convince me you weren't scared. The handprints on my back where you gripped so tight back me up." "Whatever. I've got lemurs to feed," Maddie says and slumps down at the kitchen table, taking out her phone to check on her new lemur. Gemma puts one of the Coke cans in front of Maddie and takes a seat at the other side of the table. She, too, gets out her phone and begins attending to her new acquisition. The next half hour is silence except for the occasional slurp when either one of the girls takes a sip from her can. Even virtual lemurs can take a lot of looking after!
