Description
Felicity Byron is the third generation in her family to attend St Tibb's High School, her mother and her maternal grandmother both being Tibb's girls before her, and she is very proud to be continuing the legacy.
This instils an intense feeling of affection for her school and she loves finding out about its history (established in 1852 when the main building was converted from a manor house for a local nobleman into a boarding school and is now a day-attendance school, so it has a long history).
When Paige, her mother, finds an old photograph showing Felicity's grandmother and the rest of Grandmother's form at approximately the same age as Felicity is now, she shows it to her daughter and Felicity is overjoyed. She is actually looking at how her grandmother appeared when she was at St Tibb's, and Felicity can even recognize where in the school grounds the photograph was taken. What an amazingly tangible link to the past!
She is particularly fascinated by the uniform the students are wearing in the picture---a type of grey pinafore dress---quite different from what is worn today. Paige explains that back in those days, the school was still a full-time boarding school and so students rarely had to wear anything like a blazer because the journeys from their dormitory to their classroom were almost always indoors the entire time, thus the pinafore dress was sufficient for use throughout the school day (except perhaps in the very middle of a cold winter). The one thing Felicity notices that is identical, however, is the tie. It appears the St Tibb's school tie has not changed, at least not since her grandmother's time.
For several days after being given this photograph, she nags her mother to make a pinafore dress similar to the ones in the picture, and Paige finally relents, applying her modest dressmaking skills to create something much like what her own mother is seen wearing. Felicity cannot wait to try it on, dressing up as close to the girls in the picture as she can match with what she has available.
How amazing would it be to go to school dressed like this and imagine what it was like to be a boarder back then? Felicity muses to herself as she admires her recreated uniform in a full-length mirror. I also wonder which of the rooms Nana slept in and did all the other day-to-day stuff in! I'll bet I get taught some lessons probably right next to where she slept every night. How awesome is that!
For some girls, St Tibb's is just somewhere their parents have paid a decent sum of money for them to attend for their education. For Felicity, however, it is a journey into the past that goes back three generations, and if she ever has daughters, it will be proceeding into the future, too.

The present day uniforms look a bit more stylish and mature than the pinafore style, but I kinda prefer the socks of the older uniform! I went to a private school that had uniforms, and we wore the pinafore style (in a grey wool blend) for elementary school (through about age 11), but by middle school we'd transitioned to the pleated style skirt similar to what the Tibb's girls wear. No blazers or ties for the girls, though, maybe b/c it was too hot for that in Atlanta!

I can imagine, yes, it could be quite warm to wear a blazer and tie. At least you appear to appreciate what school uniforms are like outside of late-90 Britney Spears music videos! I got frustrated when I first started using Poser and tried searching for UK-style school uniforms. Ugh! So many sexualized and, let's face it, unrealistic versions. It was a total blessing for me when I finally learned enough of Marvlelous Designer to create my own.

Forgot to add: how sweet that Felicity is making such a strong connection with her mother's and grandmother's experience at the school!

Yes, Felicity does have a strong connection to the legacy of being a 3rd-generation Tibb's girl. (There's a storyline I did on DA where it plays a key motivator for a rather heroic act she did. I doubt I'll ever post the whole story here, though, as it lasts so long and is a little involved.)
