Description
The Science block at St Tibb's High School houses nine labs dealing with the main 'hard' science subjects: biology, chemistry, physics.
There are three labs dedicated to each of the three subjects, and in this picture we see friends and running partners, Anulika Onyenekwu and Crystal Fadika of form 8W, in one of the chemistry labs, taking part in an experiment.
Teaming up into pairs is the usual practice at St Tibb's for lessons with a practical element, and for science experiments it is usual for one of the pair to perform the practical side of things and the other to write up what takes place. Some girls may stay with this set-up for the whole year, and other pairs will alternate to give both girls a chance to experience all sides of the experiment.
In this image, Mr Turnbull is trying to explain to Anulika what the essence of chemistry is ("It's all about the ions, girl!", he tells her) while also commending her removal of the test-tube from the heat source when she is listening to him.
