Description

The two explorerers communicated with hand gestures; speech only possible if they touched helmets. Their lights illuminated the murky depths revealing signs of buildings and statuary. They did not know they were observed by a pair of strange, humanoid lifeforms. Molly's art notes: Set up and rendered in Poser 12.0.1029 using the Superfly Cycles 2 rendering engine. I continue to struggle with dimly lit, underwater scenes. I'm trying to avoid cartoonish blue lighting, etc. but getting a realistic volumetric effect and enough light to see anything drives me nuts. I spent an indecently long time messing with this. Any suggestions or pointers to good tutorials would be greatly appreciated. The content includes bits of a setting by Blue Tree Studios, a model of Nemo's Nautilus by Michael C, Diving gear by Cybertenko (which completely obscures the characters within it🙄) and bits of his setting "Captain Nemo's Hunting Grounds". The mermaids are by Summoner. The lighting is provided by 2 point sources in the submarine, the chest lamps of the divers and an HDRI image on an environment sphere (Underwater HDRI by Namatar3D; it's free! 🤗)

WOUW, this is really a super cool looking underwater scene dear Molly, I think that Atlantis lies in the archipel of Santorini (Greece), wich was for me the must beautiful place of earth, I really want to go back there, but to much stairs.

I would love to see this place some time but at my age it is unlikely! ;-) I always love hearing from you, Ute.

PS. You must love what you create first, what others think about your works is only in the eyes of the respective viewer and since many do not bother to take a closer look at a graphic, they miss so much that is worth seeing!!!!😉

True, Ute. I am always interested in what other people see as it helps me to notice things better when I look at art and how to better emphasize what I would like other to see in my art. But truly, I make my pictures to please myself and am always delighted if other enjoy them, too. <3

Great image so much going on, has real golden age feel to it. The hideously impractical SCUBA apparatus is a hoot (Lets hope the sub has ladders deployed, I would hate to try to resurface with the weight of that clobber!) and the Atlanteans look great, a realy refreshing take on mer-people, with the finned limbs.

Thank you, Joe! I love Golden Age science fiction magazine cover art and it inspires a lot of my lurid and silly story lines. XD There IS a ladder from the diving chamber of the submarine (which is a pretty accurate representation of Nemo's Nautilus from the Verne stories; I love Michael C's content for that kind of accuracy). I think Cybertenko's diving gear is pretty canon accurate to the Verne source material as well. The mer-people are by Summoner and can be found on his "Freedom of Art" site. His take on cryptozoic creatures is always fun.

Can't help you with underwater scenes but I think your GA image does the era justice. Cybertenko's stuff can be quite nice...still haven't used his T34...

Thanks, JD. I have that T34, too, and may get around to using it some day. I think I have everything for Poser he has ever made. Cybertenko is moving to DAZ Studio more and more so you may even get some content of his that I am not able to easily use. XD
