I dont think I have ever seen mistletoe before but it looks like its a pest and will kill the tree in the long term.

yeah, with other commenters, I've never seen mistletoe growing before. I didn't realize it came from such a gnarly tree! It's a primal looking tree...and you say parasites are attacking it...it does look eaten somehow. A shame, it's a very strong looking tree. It's just so tangled and dark. I never knew mistletoe came from a tree...I thought it was a shrub or bush...I hope you're having a good holiday season, Richard, and that the weather is treating you well...
