Description

Alteration VII
The white paper of the few leaves that remained at the bottom of the drawing board had turned into a kind of snowy blanket. As she descended the steps that connected her to the ground, the young woman became aware that a new wooded landscape presented itself to her sight. The rocks and fir trees reminded her of some northern forest, and that's when she saw them: what she had taken for lights from the top of her balcony. A pair of eyes stared at her, it was a wolf that was well over twice his size; by reflex, she caught herself drawing her sword, while the wolf looked menacing.

Ah. I've always thought of newly fallen snow, white and featureless as being like a blank sheet of paper, ready to accept ideas and images; very clean and perfect. Discovering a menacing animal might cause one run in fear or stand your grown to fight and learn. She has chosen to stand her ground, it seems. Can she befriend and tame the wolf? It is like trying to tame a wild inspiration, I think! =)

“Taming a wild inspiration” is very well found, dear Molly. I have always had a special connection with the wolf and the imagination it summons; from childish terror to the power of the animal that accompanied my adolescence, to the meaning given to the pack for my adult life. The wolf is also the powerful and sensual power of creativity that we are afraid to reveal, because we fear that it will devour everything.
