Description

And again I have to part with one of my dearest ones. For some it might look, as if I made a habit from burying another four legged Pal every year in Summer or Autumn, but be advised, I really hate such situations, but they simply happen (and they hurt like crazy). We had to release Löi from his suffering today. He had been suffering from chronic constipation for over a year and about 3/4 years ago his eyesight began to dim. About 1/2 year ago he suddenly became completely blind and where before he could still orientate himself by shadows and outlines (lens clouding), suddenly total darkness set in (probably a retinal detachment). Then suddenly he not only began to bump into walls, doors and chair legs, but he kept turning left in circles, suggesting a cerebral apoplexy. What remains is grief and pain and many memories, but the longer they last, the more they fade (according to my experience) and only the really big events remain in constant memory. Löi was a puppy from Merline's 5th litter and as a kitten from our Merline he also was a Brother to Felix and Sina (see in my gallery). He was one of four tabby puppies and one black in that litter. He stayed with us, while his siblings could always be placed in pairs. Just like Baghira, he was a "relaxed" cat who didn't get stressed too quickly, loved to bury himself in the bed covers and when he got into bed with you, he always wanted to be on top. He was very good at making himself heard with his voice, and if you ignored him, he would sometimes come with a stretched paw that gently and carefully demanded the desired attention with its claws (mostly in your face). The same paw was often used to fish the wet food from the bowl with the claws and to eat it from the paw. When stroked, he would bounce his curved back towards the stroking hand and headboops were his speciality. He loved his morning butter and being groomed with a knobby glove, or a brush during the day (which he usually demanded on the ironing board - just like his mother did). He was an specialist at finding nice and semi-shady spots in the garden to enjoy the day and when the cat toy was brought out he could still chase the string or feathers vigorously and doggedly in his old age. He loved cardboard boxes, He loved blankets and pillows, He loved fancy hiding places, He was a real cuddly bear, He loved snow and He loved his humans who loved him just as much and now miss him very, very sorely. He was a prince and a clown at the same time.Yes, he lived to be a proud 19 years old and he shared a good third of our lives with us and that is why his loss hurts so much. On 31.7.2023 at about 14:40 he fell asleep in the arms of his weeping owner and left our world. I only have the hope that we will see each other (and all the others) again someday. Until then: "Löi don't forget us and wait for us with the rest of the gang on the other side when our time has come. In deep mourning, your humans who miss you!

I feel your pain. It's never easy to lose a companion, We've been married nearly 60 years and have buried 5 well-loved moggies.
