Description

__ The "Galerie Vivienne" located in the 2nd district of Paris, is one of the most popular covered passageways of the capital city, as nearly 6,500,000 tourists visit it every year. Built in 1823, this passageway, like some other Parisian passageways nearby, was actually a short cut that made it possible for pedestrians to connect to streets that were otherwise parallel and very far from each other.
__The 176-m-long arcade is designed in a neo-classical Pompeian style. The architects have carefully incorporated elements of ancient architecture, with Corinthian columns, frescoes and delicate ornamentation. A spectacular glass roof spans its entire length, allowing natural light to flood the interior. At the center of the gallery is an imposing cupola.
__ Since 1880, the Gallery's floor has been a work of art in itself, featuring a mosaic of marble and colored ceramic tiles by Giandomenico Facchina. The two photos I took there actually point to both main entrances to the 'Galerie'
__ Thank you very much for your recent visits and comments on my previous photo taken on the rooftop of the 'Centre Pompidou' or 'Centre Beaubourg', in Paris. I wish you a pleasant Summer week. Zoom in for a better view of the Galerie Vivienne's architectural features.

Oh!

Very nice photos. They remind me of the Gallery in downtown Cleveland. I think that's what it was called. It was a shopping center. I suppose it is still there.

So sorry I am late, had to buy a new monitor! I love the perspective of this wonderful image, I previously worked with stained glass I have a great respect for the many reflections the glass holds. The awesome architecture lends to ones dreams one way and the glass lends to dreams another way...Once again you have given a great lesson, I thank you for the teaching and the beauty! and for your lovely visits!

Lovely interior scene. Love the neo-classical design of the whole place. The flooring looks gorgeous as well. Someone should create a digital 3D model of this that can be used in Poser or DAZ Studio!

Good to see you've started posting your images here again, by the way. Keep up the good work. :)

thank you so much for commenting in my gallery...I'm late returning the kindness only because I've been offline a long time.

1) I appreciate the background information...I studied architectural history some years back (and did architectural drawing as part of my art training), so you'll always pull me in with fine architectural photography. You captured the gentle light of this space, but also its density. Part of it is your perspective, allowing the lines to pile into each other as we look towards the door. And, luckily, at least one place was lit inside, allowing that beautiful gold light to grace the hallway with its glow.

2) This is a more cloistered space, with beautiful muted light (we used to call it "northern" light, even though that doesn't apply to architectural interiors!) Sweet detail on the pillar/arch lines, and it's really sweet to see a couple talking intimately...as well as being able to glimpse the lights in the background. This reminds me (oddly) of a film, "The Russian Ark," because the actors moved through hall after hall like this (they were in a museum, though). Very sensitive architectural photography.

A beautiful photograph of a beautiful space. Luckily it wasn't full of people at the time, though that could have made for a nice photo as well.
