Description
Our story consists of two characters. Joel is the old man and Roy is the young hustler.
Joel had been a loner most of his life. He had felt lucky to have had a wife that stuck
by him through think and thin all their married lives. Recently, Rose had passed away,
so Joel found himself really feeling the pangs of lonelines for the first time in his
life.
On this particular night, Joel had to get out of the house. There wasn't anything he
liked on the television or the internet. He was bored and really feeling the pangs of
the empty sounds in his house. So he went for a short drive down to a nearby diner that
stayed open 24 hours a day.
He hadn't been sitting at his table long, waiting to get the waitresses attention, when
in strutted a very handsome guy, perhaps in his late 20s or early 30s. He walked right
up to the bar with stools and sat directly across from Joel.
Roy was down on his luck. He had been hustling in the big city most of his adult life
and was really getting burned out by the action and lately, lack of action due to a
younger generation moving in and taking away a lot of his business. He decided to take
a little break from the hassle and leave the bright lights of the city behind him for
a spell.
He had been driving all day long and was starting to get tired when he popped over a
hill and saw the lights of a medium sized town in the distance. His gps identified the
town for him. It sounded like it might be advantageous for him to stop there and take
a break for a spell.
He pulled off the main highway and drove down the old main street. He hadn't gone far
when the lights of a little diner caught his eye. The blinking neons sign out front
indicated the place was still open.
'Looks like I should be able to get a cup of coffee and a sweet roll in this place
before I continue down the highway. At least I can rest my eyes a bit.'
Roy walked into the diner and turned to find a place at the bar. He noticed an old
guy sitting at a booth about halfway down the aisle. He sauntered down that far and
took a stool directly across from the old gentleman. He hadn't been sitting there
long before he could feel someones eyes staring at him from behind. Just a little
bit angrily, he turned around and glared at the old man who had obviously been
staring at him ever since he came in and sat down.
'What you staring at old man?!' he ask in a very irritated voice. He had been used to
being stared at when he was younger but it had been awhile since anyone had stared
at him like the old man was now.
'Oh, I'm sorry!' replied Joel. 'You just reminded me of someone I would have loved to
have met 50 years ago!'
'Is that right?' asked Roy. 'Well, buy me lunch and I'll tell you my story!'
'You've got a deal!' exclaimed Joel as he motioned for Roy to sit across from him
at his booth.

Exactly what you want him to look at. And I'd say Joel just go hustled. But I think maybe he is doing some hustling of his own. Nice image.

Companionship is often worth more than mere money. And your story and artwork illustrate that very well, Bill. I believe we're seeing the beginning of a long-time friendship here!

The diner looks remarkably clean to be open 24/7. I wonder what their cleaning regime might be! lol Bit cautious about meeting someone in a strange place. Be careful old Man! Nice work Bill!
Radar_rad-dude
You are right about not being too careful, Steve! Well, I'll send some extra angels down for the old man to help protect him just in case!

Great POV? Where is the dinner from?
Radar_rad-dude
Gosh! I don't know! I got it some place for free on the internet! If you look closely you can see many flaws in it! Lots of black areas that still need fine tuning in blender! Thanks for viewing and commenting!
