Description

Lori was having the time of her life! 3 weeks alone and loose on the world - okay, officially she was staying with her mother's 92-year old great-grandfather in the South Tyrol region of Italy. He spoke more French than English or Italian, but that was okay too! Her French was good enough to get things done, plus the old man was happily teaching her to swear in French and Italian. Not the sloppy crude cuss'n which he said would make her look like a fascist, but with 'sophistique' which made her sound like nobility! His old farm house was so amazing! Old, sure, but it even had secret-passageways! Something about church priests needing to escape if you found them kiss'n your wife. Plus his old telephone had actual wires running to the wall - he said that was so his neighbor's couldn't steal it! Made sense, she guessed. But more shockingly, no WiFi or internet! When she'd asked, her great-great-grandfather had laughed and said that proved why the wires worked! His neighbors' had stolen his Internet, but couldn't steal his phone. The pair kept busy around the farm, plus he was teaching her all kinds of card games, including the secrets to gambling and not losing. Her mother would freak if she knew. Cursinng and gambling - this trip was proving very educational. Best of all, her great-great-grandfather let her ride his old bike to the local village for 4 hours a day - alone and unsupervised! It was an amazing old bike with mud-flaps and one of those wonky bells she'd seen in old movies. Plus, the village did have WiFi and Internet, and by the time she got her apps up running, all her friends back home (where it was the middle of the night) where sick with worry AND envy for her! She always had amazing adventures to tell, which were only a little bit embellished. Like her selfies with that old German WWII helmet which she claimed her great-great-grandfather and she had discovered in his field just that day. In truth it was in his garage, but she'd still discovered it just that day! So only a half-lie! The village was also fun. Sure, Internet access was great, but everyone told her funny stories about her family. Including one old shop-lady who'd whispered for her to be very clever and cheerful for the old man. Seems he'd 'disinherited' everyone else in the family, so if she played her cards right, that old farm could be hers some day! Did Lori really want an old farm in northern Italy? She'd think about it. When she'd mentioned this to her mother on the phone, her mother had sounded embarrassed and avoided the subject. Clearly, her mother had an opinion on that subject! Suddenly Lori's wild solo adventure made a bit more sense. She was still having the time of her life, but now she had some work to do was well. Thanks. I always need a story for my images. It makes it less vanity to gen pinups and all. :-)
