Description

There's no mistake in the thumb, dear friends... There's a great book "Drawing On The Artist Within" by Professor Betty Edwards, where (and not only there of course, but I love the book very much - that's the reason for the reference) it's recommended to flip pictures we are copying upside down to develop our vision. A gerat excercise! Unfortunately the copy is far from the original, but this is only my third "flipped" copy. So don't please be too stern with me... Digitally and non-digitally Yours, -Anthony.

does reading upside down also count as exercise? Cuz I'm really good at that... Anyway, this is quite good and I like that you included the original as well (oooh the harsh critics can break it down now).

Lovely long flowing broad strokes, and oh yes very captivating eyes. Overall contrast on shading is excellent.

I truly love your art Anthony - you have a visible passion that few possess - much less are able to convey through their work - as you very successfully do. Although this is a kind of 'copy' of another etching, yours Anthony, has an entirely 'unique flavor' that makes the composition your own. The advice in your favorite book is quite excellent, and if I may, allow me to pass on something else that I find exceptionally helpful. View your art in a mirror. In my studio, I had a large mirror opposite my easel, (simply stored there for lack of room elsewhere) and one day, I happened to stand off to the side to view my work - then satisfied with what I saw - turned around to go get some coffee. It was then when the reflected mirror image caught my eye and I saw this hideously crooked face leering out at me. To avoid turning this into a book of its own Anthony - the mirror showed me all the flaws in how my brain and vision perceive things front on, but the opposite is entirely another story - try it - you'll be amazed at what you see. The reversed mirror image can be very helpful in finding imperfections in one's art. Again, "Upside Down" is a wonderful image with a definite Anthony touch.

You did a very wonderful job!!! And you're very right about that book! I did all the exercises of the same book translated in my own language many many years ago. Even gave lessons to others, because I was so exited about the improved results! I also use the mirror-help sometimes. When you are very used to draw things you don't really need to turn all the things around anymore, but when you hesitate, it can still be helpfull!
