Description
The list of J.S.Bach's masterpieces would fill a lengthy volume; he excelled in so many instrumental and choral forms with his distinctive melodic lines and mastery of multi-part counterpoint. A case in point is Cantata BWV 21 "Ich hatte viel Bekümmernis" (I had much sorrow) widely considered one of his most inspired choral works, with eloquent arias and chorales, transitioning from sorrow to comfort as the piece develops. I'll be honest, I'm not a big one for ecclesiastical music, and my "go-to" Bach pieces are instrumental (the orchestral suites, double concerti, cello sonatas, Brandenburgs, etc.), but this cantata is a bit special. He catalogued the work as suitable for all occasions: "per ogni tempo"... which literally translates as "for all time". Indeed!
The image is inspired by several well known paintings ; most obviously Rosetti's "Beata Beatrix". the graininess was an attempt (not 100% successful) to replicate the slightly diffuse feel of Rosetti's original painting; I may do an alt denoised version and upload it once i have time; it will need an overnight render).

I totally agree with you, this cantata is a splendor. Not a surprise knowing JS Bach is the composer. As to your image it's simply splendid and inspiring, like a message of peace, of love...

Beautifully done.

This is magnificent, Joe - and a classic in its own right. And what a lovely dedication for Barb! I see she loves it too.
I'm not sure I remember this piece - I'd probably know it if I heard it. I'll have to sort through my Bach discs.
Gorgeous work!

Wonderfully created Portrait dear Joe, ...I have them every day too, sometimes they are so strong that they threaten to eat me up!

We live in "interesting times", alas. Stay strong; I find much solace in the music itself on such occasions.
