Description
Loosely based on Waterhouse's enigmatic painting, "The Soul of the Rose"... ive tried to capture some of the wistfulness of the original (hard to do with such a masterpiece!), and have modelled my principal in hommage to the elegant red haired archetype common in his paintings. I've also tried to allude to some of the classical elements and Victorian symbolism, hence the little lark on the Roman fountain. Larks have a lot of symbology associated with them, but in this case, renewal, as a counterpoint to the melancholy of the main character....
...and an acknowledgement to Tad Williams, from whose epic trilogy i have adapted the title of this piece.

oh, Joe!! now that is what i call 'giving good face'!! whilst i realise that the setting is of import, of course it is the character that is the true 'soul', at least to my eyes, and you've capture that wonderfully through the flowering frame, and that sublime, subtle expression... hoping you're pleased with this as much as i am... thank you! [a million smiles]
i've not read this particular Williams series, though i can say 'Otherland' holds a dear spot amongst my top 5 series of all time.
by chance have you read Dan Simmon's Hyperion/Endymion series? if not, and for more than a few reasons, i honestly think that you might enjoy it immensely, due to the crafting of language, and it use, & the melding of various ideas, despite its age...
