Description

You know, it suddenly occurred to me, looking through my feed, that I don’t post nearly enough male characters. It’s not on purpose actually; it’s simply that, by far, most of the character assets available are female. That’s probably because, for whatever reason, the 3D art space, at least in my limited experience, is a mostly male, mostly hetero, one. Hence, the creators of assets respond to the demand of the largest group of consumers. But even given that fact, I actually do have quite a few male characters (and related assets) that I haven’t used yet (apparently, I love the ladies too!😄). I shall try to display a little more variety going forward. #manly #male #handsome #stylish #cool #city #cityscape

In life drawing class I found it easier to draw males. My brain doesn't see the object as a whole, rather the geometric shapes within the object. I just draw the pieces. That way nothing is overwhelming. The male figure's pieces are more distinguishable & my line-work would be more aggressive (no 4H pencil). For some reason that doesn't transfer to the 3D or vector art world. Also I find the female form more pleasing to the eyes, as did most if not all the women in my life. No idea what they saw in me but I never had to pay for a drink in a "gay bar." Must have been something there. I agree we should work on more male pieces. Excellent work btw.

First, thanks for the comment JKnoU! (For the record, in figure drawing class, I switched to charcoal and pastels, because it helped me to focus on form, light, and shadow; as opposed to trying to illustrate every detail. Probably the best advice my professor gave me.)

Secondly, to your point about the female form being more pleasing to the eye… did you know that for years (this was more prevalent in the 70’s and 80’s), there was copious amounts of nudity in mainstream women’s magazines (both on the editorial side, and advertising) because studies showed that women responded extremely positively to it? So you are not wrong in your assessment.
