Description
This sun recorder was a weather instrument. A special black paper was placed in a holder behind the glass sphere and the sunlight focused through the sphere would burn a spot on the paper. The paper would be changed every day and logged. An interesting fact I discovered while researching this was back 1835 (I think that was the year) there was a full moon that was so bright it burned a spot on the paper. Now day weather stations use electric sun recorders. I would love to find one of these to add to my sphere collection.

Very nice model Glas, love the reflections in the support. I remember seeing a drawing of one of these in my geography book in schooll about twenty years ago, always wondered what one would look like in the flesh!

Enjoy your works... always interesting items... Though prefer windows to see if the sun is shining, but working nights.... often doubt that there is a sun... Fun model.
