Description

Dedicated to the crew of the Shuttle Columbia, who's crew gave their lives in the exploration of space. The seven stars represent the seven brave souls. May their souls fly high. I felt bad that I had not done a true tribute picture, but instead just included a blurb in Misfortune Teller's description. I hope this is a much more appropriate tribute. Vue/Painter/Photoshop The nebula was created by hand (without plugins) in Painter. The shuttle and earth were rendered in Vue and the two were composited in Photoshop. The image was then taken back into Painter where the stars and flames were added... Comments and suggestions welcome. Thanks for looking. Credits: Image by ShadowWind Shuttle/Earth from 3DCafe

In this day of posturing, it is so very nice to see such a wonderful tribute to the Astronauts of Columbia and to the future of Space Exploration. Much of my teenage years were spent talking with my Dad on the efforts that were being made for the US and for the World. My Dad worked at the Kennedy Space Center as a supervisor of the telemetry department. I love that you placed a star in the Heavens for each Astronaut because they were shining stars. The Heavens (space) have a wonderful etheral feel and your choice of colors are perfect. Excellent detail and I think you have done a masterful job of bring the shuttle into your work on the nebula. It looks very natural there. So many times here, outside images are placed in an existing image being worked on, but there is no blending to make it completely and inexplicably a part of the image...as if it just had to be there. You have done a wonderful work artistically and in Tribute to these 7 men and women.

fantastic - a great tribute. in my career i have worked with NASA (Intelsat 603 reboost in 1992), and they were excellent. i have great confidence in them and they are very brave, but sometimes your number's up. they need our support all the time but especially now. i think the folks on the ISS would appreciate this pic.

Oh wow oh wow! What a beautiful tribute to the brave souls who seek to push the limits of mankind. This is stunning Shadow! I think NASA should see this. It would make a great commerative poster or even stamp! I'm sure the ones lost in the tragedy would be honored by your picture!!!!!
