Description
This is my first attempt at compositing a rendered image (the car, obviously!) into a real photographic environment.
The setup was quite simple - I added a plane and angled/sized it to match the flat area at the front of the photo, then re-projected the photo over it with FRONTAL mapping. I then added the untextured car model (which my friend Allan Peiper sent me - thanks Al), textured it, and positioned a light so that its intensity matched the ambient light in the photo and the shadows were cast in (roughly) the right place. The photo is of a chateau in Normandy that I visited last summer, by the way.
I think I might progress this idea a bit further and hopefully improve on it in the future.

It looks good, but not good enough. It appears that the angle is off. The cars seems to stand on the two tires closer to the camera. And the camera-focal lenght is not right either. The shoadow is ok, but try added a bit blue to the shadwo color. If you draw an imaginary line through the axle of the front tires i.e., you'll see that the line'll hit somewhere is the tree, which is not right.! :-)
Nice though!

In my point of view the car is a bit to short and the shadow is a bit to sharp, I agree it also needs some blue... at all great done! Tell your friend that the car is excellent done!!! ThanX for posting! ~{o;)

As above. The angle is off on the car. It looks like it's going round a corner on two wheels. Very nicely done apart from that though.

I think I was staring at the thing for so long whilst positioning it that I lost my perspective. It's only now that you guys have said the angle looks odd that I can see it! Funny how your mind plays tricks like that sometimes... :)

This is real tricky to do... As mentioned above the virtual camera focal length is noticeably wider than that which shot the background scene. Also another problem is the differing color balance of the car (quite warm) in contrast to the col balance of the overall scene (cold) You need to assess what lens shot the background image and then re render your car with a matching focal length. The second problem is POV. Set the background image up (small version) as a backdrop in your render window. Fiddle with camera angle till it looks right.
